Hunters always used to be made in the UK and were brilliant. Nowadays, like so many other things, they are made abroad and the quality has deteriorated considerably. The shop I work in sells them and you could tell the difference when the new stock started coming in. If they fall apart in3 or 4 months take them back to the shop and they should return them to Hunter. Hopefully if enough people do it they will improve the quality. Not tried them myself but we sell a lot of Toggi wellies now and people seem pleased with them. Aigle are excellent but pricey!

Agree with all the comments about new v old hunters, although I have a pair of Hunter Argyles (black with a red rim around the top and no buckle, sort of budget Hunters!) that have been pretty good if not very stylish. Aigle are excellent quality, my mum is still wearing her Aigle wellies that she had when she was 14, she is 37 now and only just thinking about replacing them as the soles have worn flat and slick! No holes or anything!

I've had my Tyne Muck Boot wellies since last December and they've been great and keep my feet warm. I previously had some Joules wellies but they can't be designed for proper use as mine split after a few weeks. I sent them back and got a replacement and they split so I got another replacement. I use them for the occasional shower in the summer now as they just don't work!
I love my Muck Boots and will get another pair when my current ones wear out.

bought a pair of Hunters at xmas and have just had to chuck them because they are totally cracked. plus they were only worn for a few hours every day, it's not as though I live in them. OH just bought me some Ariat Grasmeres to replace the Hunters and I wore them all weekend at Burghley in about a foot of mood and torrential rain and they were brilliant. sooo comfy and warm and toasty feet, plus good to ride in. i would not buy hunters again, thought it was a total waste of money

I have a pair of Dubarry which i love but think they are a bit expensive for everyday yard stuff

What are the derby house boots Ashkadog??

I am thinking boots rather than wellies I have looked at the hunter leather ones but are they fully waterproff?

Can't bear Hunters, they don't seem to last and aren't warm enough.
I ummed and ahhhed between Muck Boots and Le Chameu - went for Muck Boots and think they're fab. Incredibly warm, good grip and totally waterproof. They survived the Burghley XC on Saturday when it resembled a WWI battlefield and my feet were warm, dry and comfy as anything. No doubt they'll be dragged out for Blenheim this weekend too

They never get sucked off in the field and clean up as good as new every time.

And another vote for "Hunters are rubbish now"

I have worn them for years and a pair used to last me several years minimum - now I am lucky if they last several months

I refuse to buy Joules ones though as my sister wears them

I have a pair of these hunter wellies. I had no problems with them and my wellies never lasted for years, so I see no difference
