I have a pair of expensive size 4 wide fit Ariat rubber boots that I bought last year but they're too high up the back of my calf and dig into the back of my knee. They are mega uncomfortable and I consciously avoid wearing them.

Can anyone recommend a decent quality welly boot that accommodates short wide calfed people? I'm a size 4 and 5'1 tall. I need full length waterproofness (sp?) as I use them for trudging through thick mud and cow pooh.

HELP! :)

I have this problem too...I am 5'2" and a size 3 shoe. I currently have Hunters but they are so narrow I can't even tuck my jeans in, have to roll them up, I look so cool!! The best fitting welly I've had was the own brand Countrywide ones, they lasted a year of abuse and are quite cheap and cheerful. My yard/riding boots are Tuffa Suffolks which I love, they have adjustable velcro round the calf and come in wider fittings but unfortunately they are far from waterproof!

Yeah, I'm a size 3 too but gave up trying to get adult fit wellies in that size. They are always kid's boots and WAAAAYYYY too tight. I can manage with a size four though. They're always roomy but okay with nice thick socks

I want a pair of wellies I can tuck my jeans into, too! I wear short yard boots around the yard and ride in my Mountain Horse boots, but just want something suitable for heavy rain, thick mud and for negotiating the cow muck when the cows have been driven through the yard!!! Jeeze, how hard can it be? :( Few of the website selling wellies give calf and height measurements. Just foot size so I know they're going to be either too tight, too high or BOTH!

Have you tried the muck boots? I have quite big calves and they fit fine, they are made to feel a bit snug but they are not tight as they stretch, the leg on them is quite short and they are very warm and very waterproof.

Just not sure those are going to be waterproof high enough up the leg. Unfortunately I have to negotiate some almost knee deep mud at times, although fingers crossed for another hard winter so the mud stays frozen like las year! I'm probably the only person praying for a really horribly cold winter :D

Can you not just take a pair of scissors and trim the back of the boot down so it no longer rubs ?

I am a bloke with size 8/9 feet and massive calf's to the stage I cannot get riding boots that will fit and that also goes for them half chap things.....

As for wellingtons I found Hoggs braemar were good for me

I have these too and they really do fit the short wide leg. The only thing is that mine , the " Tack "don't have enough grip on the sole .

The Argyll may suit you but I don't know if the quality has deteriorated like the Hunters . Worth trying on though.

I have very wide calves and found Hunter wellies too narrow, but tried the Huntress ones on and they are fine. They are much shorter than a hunter welly, but really nice and wide.

The only ones I've found to fit are countrywide ones though I do go though 2 pairs a winter, but they only £20, not very warm though.

I've just googled these and I like the aubergine ones alot, found them for £50!

ETA Mole Valley Farmers have them in blue, only a size 3 in stock for £40!!!

YES! I've been eyeing those 'Huntress' ones but am a bit put off by the previous Hunter wellies I've experienced. They're not as comfy or warm as my Ariats and I find their sole way too slippering. I couldn't get up the steep ramp of the lorry wearing my last green Hunter wellies. It was embarrasing and totally ridiculous. That puts me right off buying any more!

Has anyone got the Huntress wellies? What are they like?

I would but they are the ones with the buckle at the top and the adjustable width thingy. If I cut the top off (which would have to include the buckle) they'd just gape at the top :o

I got wide fitting wellies from shoe zone last year! Doubt they'll last very long, they also had ankle welly boots, I don't know how useful they'd be in a stable and they were in fashion last year, so not sure if they're still around.

I seen some wellies on groupon that were available in wide fit a few weeks ago, they were pretty pricey (but had discount) and came in patterns! Can never usually get patterned & wide/large :(

Spyda, I bought my huntress ones at Fayre Oaks last weekend, so not really had any cold or slippery weather yet, but so far so good. I find them really comfy, and can get my jeans down inside them with my big fat calves!

Bet yours aren't as FAT as mine! Ner Nerdy Nerrr!!! :D:D:D

Hummm.... the Hunters ones sound a promising idea then. Found some Huntress boots on a garending website for under £50 including mega fast delivery (tho we've yet to see about that ).

another vote for muck boots, I have the green ones with a proper sole, not the black ones with a smooth sole..

They are waterproof all the way to the top, even though it's only the foot bit that is coated in rubber. They don't come off in deep mud either because they fit snugly.
