My 2yr old colt had escaped out of his paddock this afternoon and wondered onto the grass - my mare is kept in another paddock further down so after the call i got i was anxious that he would be running up and down with his 5th leg out trying to get to her!!
OH was not about and neither was anybody else so had to walk to the field - granted its only a 10 min walk down hill but very heavily pregnant @41 weeks (lazy baby!) with SPD its a bit of a challenge!! it was 3.45pm and getting darker so i had no choice but to walk!
Got there to see him stuffing his face with grass  very calm he was, so i put him back in his paddock - midway through through my welly got stuck in the mud and my foot came flying out so HAD to put my foot into the mud, which is about 2ft deep :( yuck!! colt was on the end of the line and i had to move out his way as he was coming through!! resulted in my welly being about 12feet away!! there's me struggling to walk in thick mud 2ft deep with one welly on!! mud was freezing too!! colt bless him stood like a pro whilst i squirmed around him trying to get my balance with a huge bump in the way!!
Welly was retrieved, colt was safely back in his paddock and fence adjusted - it wasnt earthing properly so he took his chances and got out!!
The sock was discarded in the field - my hunters are neoprene lined so very warm even with a sockless foot!!
OH turned up then to help finish them off!!
The welly getting stuck thing happens every winter at least a couple of times!! the field must be full of hidden muddy socks!
How many times have you lost a welly this winter so far?! :D:D

Just the once so far

Was while I was helping to repair the electric fencing that the youngsters had decided to trash. Welly got stuck, foot came out of said welly and to keep my balance I had to put my foot down. In the mud. Lifted foot up minus sock and nearly lost balance again so put foot down. In the mud. Sigh.

Liveries next door learnt some new swear words that day :p :D

oh dear I bet that didn't feel nice!

Last week I turned my horse out and I turned round a little too quickly to shut the gate and I fell over in the wet, boggy mud by the gate :( unfortunately that was one of the days I had to walk home from the yard and I got some really funny looks from cars driving past on the way home!

Week ago, went to see horses, I have short wellies and one got stuck in mud... I put a hand down to balance myself ... And big lad muzzled my bum and over I went hands and knees in thick gloupy mud... I had a carrot in back pocket he cheekily plucked it out and walked off, leaving me to,hang onto mares neck to get up and turn round to find wellie , my son was laughing so much he couldn't move... Had to take pants off to drive home cos they were filthy. Have stayed other side of gate since. Worthy of you've been framed I tell you.

Irretrievably stuck by one foot and stepped out of the boot. I had to dig it out with my nails to get it out!

The next time, I was mid field, not stopping, doing well, then stuck, both boots. I had to step out of both and yank them out, by which time the whole yard was watching and wetting themselves. Meanwhile, my mate's two horses came bombing over, thinking I was catching in and interested in why I was immobile in the field. I walked through Sarah Lee chocolate cake like mud to the hose and hosed me, the boots, everything. *Shamed*

This year the nearest I've come to losing my wellie was when I'd just taken the later off the Draft horse and given her a treat. I tried to turn to go out of the field and had obviously stood still too long, my foot wouldn't move. I had to lever myself out by holding onto the mare's neck/mane. Fortunately she wasn't in a rush to go anywhere and I got out unscathed.

Years ago I was mucking out when my wellie got stuck in the mud by the muckheap. I called for sis to come and rescue me. She did but her boot got stuck as well and we both fell over. then we couldn't get up for laughing.

None this year but have a good one from years ago.
My old pony would usually ignore anyone who came into his field but whenever my sister who was a bit scared of ponies went in he would zero in on her like a shot!
One day me and dad convinced her to go out for a walk across the fields and true to form he came trotting over with Vicky in his sights.
Vicky lost the plot, turned and ran back to the gate teaving a trail of welly, welly, sock, sock in the thick mud. Dad and myself nearly pee-d laughing. Mum was not so impressed when she saw the state of her!

Went to get Foxy out of paddock, he was on individual turnout at the time. I went into the field and grabbed the side of his head collar at that point he decided to move and pull me to the side, cue me loosing one boot, then he pulled me to the other side and I lost my other boot. Then he cantered out of the gate and my only option was to run through 2ft sloppy mud in my socks, in winter to catch him!

Not quite loosing boots in the mud but on another occassion I was hacking out bareback and both of my boots fell off! Now given the fact that

A. We were bareback so I wouldn't of been able to mount a 15hh horse from the ground

B. We were about 2 miles from home

I had to leave the boots, ride home, get on the shetland and ride the route again to get my boots!
