I have always bought and worn Hunter wellies, but tbh have been a bit disappointed with the last couple as they have only lasted a year, and my very last pair not even a year.

Now, i may be expecting too much as i wear them every day and they are stored outside (upside down on a welly rack), but at £62 a time i expect them to last abit longer than a year.

Can anyone recommend me some decent wellies, that will last or should i just buy some more hunters???

If i dont buy wellies, what other footwear would you recommend for round the yard, baring in mind entering fields via muddy gates??

Le Chameau Vierzonords, I've had mine for years and they've never let me down. Lovely and toasty even in a foul Scottish winter :) they're expensive, yes, but they're worth it.

I love my muck boot co wellies! Like you, I've been disappointed with the quality of Hunters, I'm sure they used to last for years. I can't remember how much they were, but I'm sure they aren't as pricey as Hunters and mine are now going into their 3rd winter.

Another vote for Le Chameau. Got a pair of neoprene lined ones as my feet get cold in winter - they are great.

Since hunter have transferred operations to China they quality has really suffered. I went through 3 pairs in 18 months.

I have had my Le Chameaus for over a year & they are as good as the day I bought them. Added bonus, the outer material seems to repel dirt so appear to be self cleaning.

Le Chameau wellies :) love mine so much.
however the lining did wear after 6 months of heavy wearing so i sent them back and i got a brand new pair!

My dad has muck boot company boots and swears by them, my mum le chameu (sp?) I didn't have that sort of cash to splash out, but had gone through 2 pairs of joules in one winter!! never buy joules foot wear again!! So I bought toggi ladies wanderers, they have I believe now done 2 winters and still (fingers crossed!!) going strong!! And at only about £30 a pair, very good value for money! And they come in pink!!! hahahaha!!!!

I have had my Hunter wellies for ten years this Xmas and have lasted me this long and still showing no signs of giving up. I wear them nearly everyday, but they did have a year or so off!!! Am very sad that they are no longer as good.

My friend swears by her le chameau ones though...

Interesting this! My Hunters, bought last winter, have this week split across the sole, and have three holes in one and two on the other boot.
Not impressed.

Hadn't realised they were now made in China. Don't think I'll be buying them again.

There is only one type of wellie to own and that's Chameau. I used to go through 2 pairs of Hunters a year and my Chameau's are now in YEAR 7 They are SUPERB!!! Oh and I wear mine EVERYDAY of the year and my horses are stabled so they get there fair share of pee on them. Also have quarantines so they are fine being dunked into strong disinfectant and haven't perished at all

I always used to have Hunters but got to the point where I felt that for £60 or so, they weren't the best value for money.

I now have a pair of Ariat Mudbusters (I think that's what they're called) which I picked up for £40 and I find extremely comfortable and hard wearing. Very pleased with them ...

:)

i've given up on Hunters too, they just don't last anymore.

I now have a pair of Aigle wellies, with a bit on the outside to allow for fat calfs. ;)
the cost less than hunters, have a much better grippier sole on them, are really warm but don't have that sweaty welly smell to them! bargain I thought. they're 4 yo now and still going strong.

Thanks for all your replies.

Just googling now....

Goodness me, not sure i can pass of £140 for wellies to my hubby (he would have a heart attack), but the Le Chameau look lovely.

£44 for the Muck Boots sounds more like the price i used to pay.

I didn't realise they had moved the manufacture of Hunters to China, but it does actually explain the poor quality now, my very first pair of Hunters lasted me 3 years, the ones i have now like i said not even a year, they are split at the seams and let in mud/water.

Was funny at the yard the other day when i was complaining about them i was showing off my plastic bag round foot inside welly (to try and keep dry), when my friend pulled both her wellies off to show 2x plastic bags - lol.

Hunters used to be great :( I got a pair 8 years ago, and if I could still fit my fat calves in them I'd still wear them, they don't leak or anything. But I think they were made pre-China lol.

I'm sure I didn't pay £140 for my Le Chameaus. I think they do a cheaper neoprene lined pair than the ones the other posters have recommended, which are the ones I got. My Oh have the expensive ones, which he got cheap through work. I don't see a massive difference other than his are a different colour & don't stand up straight on their own, which drives me nuts!

Have a good search on google & you might find them cheaper.
