Does anyone have any information on how Welsh cob stallions are approved? Do they have gradings? Or is it only on showing and they get awarded medals? Sorry, I have no idea.

I have just bought a weanling colt and I am thinking of keeping him entire.......only if he is good enough that is. He's very well bred, both sire and dam lines are fab, he has full brothers who are stallions at stud in USA, Australia, Denmark. And yes I have the facilties (this is my yard....http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bromson-Hall-Farm-Stables/316413925114910?fref=ts) and experience to have a stallion. I have always wanted a stallion and would love to start a small stud at some point in the future.

So any help or advice would be much appreciated :D

This is him btw...

Is that Fabrizio (sp)? I love Taraco's stock. I think you are doing the right thing by waiting to see but I don't think he'll disappoint you. I do think there is a market for welsh cob stallions out competing in non-showing disciplines.

Of he is good enough and scopey enough get him licenced with both the welsh society and also get him graded into the sports books as it will open up a whole new world to him. D's are fab jumpers and have powerful behinds and good limbs so you cross them with a daintier type and generally get a cracking alrounder that is hardy.

Thanks all :)

Yes it is Fabrizio, will definitely see how he goes and he will be aimed at BD and maybe BS too. If he stays entire I shall def get him graded and if he's not good enough have him gelded :)

As someone else has said - the WPCS have a very simple licencing system for stallions, I think the SPSS is a great idea for ridden welsh cob stallions and opens additional doors for them. I recommend assessing the colts at 2/3 years old and if at any stage I have significant concerns its the chop for them! However, youngsters can go through some terrible growing phases so I do err on caution until they are 4/5 years old unless it is a serious conformaton fault or issue!

I hope that Fabrizio is settled in well and that you have many happy years with him.
