Welsh D Breeding

My welshie is by Horeb Euros out of a Craignant Flyer mare. I think he's rather special :) He's definately got that 'look at me attitude' and can turn his hoof to anything. In his life he has done county level workers and riddens, BE eventing, dressage, showjumping, PC and RC, he is a little superstar! Very opinionated and can still be a testing ride, even at 19 :D But I wouldnt change him for the world!

OOOOOO Horeb Euros is an old favourite of mine :D the first D I ever looked at buying was by him, and christ was she nice...sadly she was too small, but would have ad a lovely project pony

He is lovely isnt he :D I think my boy was one of his earlier foals (1991) so before he won his numerous championships. Mine is 14.3ish so not tiny, but not big either (just dont tell him that! :D ) He's just pootling with some RC and showing now, my coloured does all the hard work :) I've had welshie from a 2 year old and cant part with him. Would have another like him in a second!

The Derwen and Parc lines are good. I had a mare Parc breeding, she was small but very chunky.

Are all welshs a bit nuts? I would always say they are, have had several over the years and they have all been lively at the leats, and screw loose at worst! I think a lot of the old fashioed ways of keeping (in a stable, without turnout) can make them a bit odd. My current C was kept like this as a youngster and he is certainly 'affected' by it!

Saying that, my friend has a D that is very laid back, but hes not really a great example. Am i right in thinking the good ones are all a bit bonkers?

I prefer to think of them as intelligent rather than bonkers :) If you get them on side they will try their heart out for you, but they like to keep you on your toes :D

no the good ones are not all bonkers! far from it! alot of Welsh breeders put alot of time into choosing the right mating of stallion and mare, to enable them to get good quality confirmation temperment and type in resulting offspring

the prob is when so many colts are sold, stallion licence is easy to obtain, as are mares and people start breeding foals that are not suitable in temperment, type, etc

we have a lovely broodmare who is Llanarth through and through and she is such a laid back mare her half brother is similar, the welsh can put on a show but also have the temperment to train easily, I find as a breed they are extremely intelligent and do not suffer fools gladly!

My mare has Nebo Black Magic as SO many do. She's be Tireinon Jubilation and a total star.
She is a 15h chunky old fashioned stamp of a D and very brave, not spooky, easy to do but does keep you on your toes alright! My yealing colt's prefix is Lynard (prob not heard of but a chunky stamp) and my 2yr old colt is by Danaway De Niro - stunning!!!

I love the Welsh breeds - nothing else will do:)

I love welshies. I have had a pure bred secD and a secD cross ID neither have had a bad bone in their body. Both have been very clever, stubborn and opionated, my current pure bred more so. Every welsh I have personaly ever met has had a strong sense of self preservation and I like that in a horse. Sometimes it goes like, "mum I am under no circumstances going to do as you tell me, I dont want to hack out, I want to go back to my stable and will run backwards and throw my head about till you stop asking me! How dare you hit me BUCK, are you stupid or something I am trying to tell you NO. Oh theres a truck coming I better stand and let it past I done want to get injured. Good its past spin, buck, run backwards. Ok they are not the most obedient animals I have sat on but I feel safe on an intelligent horse that looks after itself and both of my mares even when being stupid have always looked after me. They dont suffer fools gladly and have a sense of humour but once you win them over and they trust and respect you, you have a horse that will do pretty much anything for you and will always take care of you.

Well my coblet was never registered but I do have the application form with all the necessary info.

So his parentage is the Deytheur line, sire was Deytheur Daniel and Dams sire was Deytheur Dai unfortunately as the form is a bad photocoy I can't make out his Dams name other than again it is Deytheur something. Searching the net I found a picture of Deytheur Dai and he is the image of him.

Is the Deytheur line any good...not that I can show him really as to many scars and things from before my ownership but just wondered if he matches the temprement etc of his line

Random question, express_75; your 2yr old colt doesn't happen to be a new purchase by any chance? I ask only because there was a STUNNING bay colt on horsequest recently by De Niro, and honestly if I could afford a second I would have snapped him up!!

I've just bought a section D and I'm just started to get into the breeding but it seems so confusing! I've not really got any idea if he has 'good' or mediocre breeding- not that it matters for what I do!!

That is his pedigree if a welsh expert would like to have a look. If anyone knows of Davids eleri (dam) or davids lovelorn (his sister) I would love to know as I've yet to find any pictures of them :)

My welsh D has Nebo Black Magic on one side and Ebbw Victor on the other, He is by Derwen Royal Express who is by Derwen Railway Express, thats the Nebo side, his dam is an Ebbw Victor mare, he is a typical chunky flashy showy welsh d, lots of knee action but can be very stressy and strong
