Hi everyone, this is my first post so hear goes....

I come from an M&M (Welsh D) showing background. I moved away from showing in my late teens and into other equestrian disciplines. I'm now about to turn 30 and have after a few years of debate decided to come back to my first love and passion of showing.
After 3 years of looking and reasurching and waiting on breeders waiting lists i have finally decided upon and purchased two fillys. One pure bred Welsh D and one part bred.
I have never competed with a part bred before. I've spent ages looking online for a clear showing guide for them but I can't seem to find any clear cut information on things such as dress code for both horse and rider, show ring process and judging criteria.

If anyone has any experience with showing Welsh part breds I would really appreciate your comments. Also if you show them in other types of classes like workers??

Thank you 😀

At top level the PB class is for Welsh and Arab PBs but only ponies, take a look at Rotherwood Rainmaker, he is a prolific winner of these classes and is very typical of the type you find in these classes.

If not showing at top level then turn out to type and enter classes suitable for your 'type'. PBs are always shown plaited.

Thank you, my pb should make 16hh. She is a 7/8 Welsh D with Nebo, Parc and Derwen lines and the remaining 8th is Arab with a tiny splash of ID if you go really far back (20yrs+).

We usually show at County level (although it has been a while 😀) and we're planning on doing the royal Welsh with the full D filly. Would like to try and get to HOYS etc. If there are any suitable classes for the Pb I would love to try and take her too. She should be more of a cob type.

Thank you again

Best of luck finding classes. In the east, there is very little except in hand at the welsh shows. My half welsh "D" has to mix it with the big boys in both working hunter and eventing. I'm not sure whether the WPCS even do the performance award any more.

Oh dear :(... Might have to stick to BD and BE possibly some workers? I was really hoping I'd be able to so some actual showing on the PB.

Thanks anyway.

If you post some pictures people will be able to suggest classes. Just because there arent many pb welsh classes doesnt mean she wont show as a riding horse etc :)

I think if she were a pony you would be ok as there is a hoys ridden part bred pony class, but not for horses.

Both fillys are still foals atm so im not sure a picture will help. She should make 16hh just and should be fairly deep though the chest going on what her mum looks like. Her mums a typical Derwen Welsh D 16hh. Sire is 15:3hh wpb. (section D with a bit of arab)
I think she will be too chunky to be a hack but possibly a tad too tall to be a small hunter.
Are there any hight restrictions on working hunter classes? I have only ever done M&M showing before so I have no idea.
Thanks :)

If they are still only foals then thinking about her ridden career is so far away I would wait and see how she matures, get her out in hand next season as a yearling in some youngstock classes and see how she compares with others and what the judges think, she may be a hunter type or possible a RH but with the knee action I would expect in a nearly full Welsh D I think it likely that she will not be a show type at all just a nice prospect to enjoy and you can concentrate on showing the pure bred under saddle.

It may be that she is of a type and you can show her at a high level but there is not a class for every horse when everything is considered, certainly workers will be an option however she moves and whatever height she ends up at but that is years away, from your OP I thought they were 3 year olds that you were planning next season with.

No, we had a bit of a shopping day and ended up comming back having bought two more baby's to add to the yard :).. I'm a planner. I like to have a goal in mind to work towards with them. Thought I'd start getting my reasurch in a good few yrs in advance so we don't look silly in the future. Hopefully I'll find something for her to do when she is under saddle.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate your advice and comments.
