Hi all i've purchased a welsh section d 15mth old he's standing at 14.1hh what height should i expect him to be i've rang the breeder and both dam & sire were 14.2 dam is llynhelyg marigold and sire is trysglwyn deio he has trevallion, gornoeth, rhydcledan, welsh magic, lynard, nebo, derwen in his breeding he is my first section d and i've just had him gelded also i'm feeding him ad-lib haylage and half stubbs scoop spillers grow'n'win and half stubbs scoop alpha a molasses free, handful linseed lozenges, scoop of garlic twice a day is this enough for him any advice appreciated thankyou

i bought my welshie at (just) 4 years and 13.2. Both parents are full up 14.2 so she is way behind :(. Had her for 3 months and had her on d&h mare and youngstock to encourage some development and she is having a growth spurt. She is nearly 14h at croup right now so its working wonders.

Anyway,i'm no professional but i would say your boy has more than an inch of growing in him at his age.

string test is definately calling though!!! i did it with my girl and showed 14.2, which should be bang on by breeding :) let us know! x

I was talking to Catherine who owns Horeb stud about the height of our welshie, & she did say it depends alot on the bloodlines, some lines tend to do all their growing as 2yr olds & then just fill out, you may find yours is one of these :) but you never know, he might surprise you & be huge!

Don't know if it's any help, but the Derwens don't go much more than 15.1hh generally. mine is 14.3hh. Geldings grow about an inch taller than entires if they are gelded before sexual maturity, apparently.
