What are your opinions on these types of horses/ponies?
Just as a general opinion as a family type pony?
Anyone got and experiences good or bad?
Thankyou
x

I know one - complete nutcase, very forward and very fun! That is only one horse though, so I can't really say he is a fair representation of the Welsh X TB population!

I love this cross, but (from my experience) they do tend to be quite sharp. Welsh cobs are pretty spirited so crossing with a TB is unlikely to produce a plod

My mare was TB sire, Welsh dam, she was an absolute poppet, very kind and a lovely ride, responsive but not silly.

Her only downside was having a welsh body on TB legs!

She would have been an ideal Mums/daughters horse, not for a really young child though.

We have a NF x TB he's 16 now, had him nearly 7 years and still an absolute fuitcake

safe as houses, bombproof, but very very fast!

they're not all nutters! i used to ride one from the age of 13-16 at a schooling/breaking yard i used to ride at. i'd hardly had any lessons before i started riding him but he was just the sweetest, willing horse, and he was 17hh! Over the winters I could sometimes only get there every month or so (owner didin't have time to ride him) but i could just pull him out the field and take him on a hack and he would never put a foot wrong, even if we were going down a narrow lane and a huge tractor came past! i don't ride him anymore

but i still think he's probably one of the best horses i've ever ridden. He had amazing paces and a huuuuge jump! he could just be a one-off though as when we went to try a 1/4welsh 3/4 tb we took it out on the road and freaked out as a lorry past and managed to break my mum's arm!

Ive got one! He's 25 and still full of beans needing to be ridden most days. Fantastic boy can be quite sharp but never nasting and can seriously jump. They are also quite hardy. well mine is.

I've got one and she is the nicest horse ever. Had her about a year and would never part with her. She is reliable, confidence giving and always the same to ride. I ride her all weathers and isnt spooky. I lost my confidence jumping and she has got me back jumping BSJA.
Hubby rides her too, he has recently been taking her to do Trailblazers SJ - he had never jumped a course a couple of months ago and she is so genuine she takes him round so safely.
She isnt a plod by no means just a lovely allrounder who almost anybody could ride. Am on the lookout for one for hubby but needs to be minimum 16.1 - ideally 16.2.

Megan (smaller lighter grey in my sig) is Welsh X TB. Its a lovely cross and she was a fab all rounder/ PC eventer- really genuine under saddle. She was however very hard work on the ground picking up the worst bits of both the TB & the Welsh. I would definately have another one though

A lovely cross in my opinion. I have a lovely TBxWelshie and she's a chestnut mare too!! Very sharp as everyone says, very forward going but would go forever! Fantastic manners on the ground too. I trust her 100%. A really sweet mare, who's loved by everyone at our yard. She's 15 now, going on 5. But I'd have no hesitation in recommending them. An excellent cross!!!

I used to own one (horse in my sig). Sharp, opinionated and a bit of a nutter but super fun and very safe/sane - would zoom all over the place but never bolted/rodeoed etc. She had a bloody good jump in her as well.

When the back lady came out, she said it was one of her favourite 'crosses' but that in all her years she'd never met one that wasn't permanently up for it.

Would highly recomend for anyone wanting a really fun all round horse with lots of personality who is going to be exciting without having you on the floor all the time.

I've got one, he's a bit of a nutter, sharp not spooky but is a love and I would have another one. The best outcome of this cross is an intelligent hardy small horse that looks the part and can take on the warmbloods at their own came. My horse's brother is an intermediate eventer and the family has produced top class show horses too.

Bay in my sig is 3/4 TB, 1/4 Welsh Section B. It's a lovely cross & I have had several others - including as a child. They wouldn't be for complete beginners because they tend to be quite forward going but all mine were great to handle & had super temperaments.

I have one too, she is 10 yrs old can be a bit sharp but great fun and will jump anything, completely bombproof. Only thing i could say bad about her she can be bolschy too handle sometimes, have been told thats the welsh in her but still would never change her.

I have one and he is the love of my life and I think they make great all-rounders but not so sure they're suited to complete novices.

My boy can be quite excitable although he's very safe but he does need a firm hand. He is VERY forward going and quite sharp but absolutely bombproof in traffic. Flutter a crisp packet though and he'd try to leap into your arms!

I think the Welsh cheekiness comes through with him and he will chance his luck and occasionally test just how serious I am when I say no

but he's never nasty.

Having said that he is an absolute diamond in all respects on the ground, fantastic temperament and very polite.

As someone else has said he's also very hardy and a very good-doer.

My favourite cross and I would have another one tomorrow, though I am biased

I would think that would make a lovely horse! Mine is a Welsh x Hackney and is still 'sharp' at 26 (the lovely boy in my siggie - so very proud of him

) .... always quite fancied a Welsh x TB though .... perhaps to remove some of the excess hair

Pip is welshXtb(with abit of hackney)

He can jump HUGE(well IMO 5 foot for a 13.3 isn't bad), is shortlisted for GB driving team, but is not easy by any strech of the imagination. His first owner after breeder, who happens to be an international driver sold him as he was too hot, the next one, national driver got scared of him. TBH he wouldn't be a great family pony. He need alot of change and to be exerciesed at least 5 times a week, usually over an hour each time before he settles. But ones he is going well, there is no stopping him!

We dont know for sure, but we think my boy is 3/4 TB 1/4 sec D. He is very laid back to handle, but not a novice ride as he has a sharp mind and if he works out he can get off with things he can act up a bit, and he is a very sharp hack, not for the faint hearted.
Have a friend who's horse is 3/4 sec D 1/4 TB and he is such a plonker, spooks at his own shadow and is also very sharp both on the ground and to ride.

I have one, he is as sharp as a tack and an absolute handful. Not the sort of horse you can have a relaxing ride on but extremely trainable and far too intelligent for his own good.

I love native x Tbs for riding club sort of stuff. They have the sharpness of the Tb with the brains of the native hopefully!!!!All the welsh x TB I have known have been real triers and very competitive at lower levels.

I would always consider one. But i like something that is a bit sharp...not dangerous but forward thinking.

Yep I have one. Sire Hipu who Out of sec D mare.
Sharp, intelligent, spooky, talented and very opinionated if I let him!
