Sharp and sensitive (mare) but honest and brave. Very nice to do and has a serious 'pop' - at 14.2 a horse in pony clothes. Love her to bits. A serious animal that you can't be daft on as she's be very offended!
The chestnut in my signature is welshxtb. I think she's lovely although she's a cross between a 16hh tb and a little welshie, which is not something I would have done myself. But she turned out nice, so hey ho! She has two sides to her- she is lovely with kids/beginners but can be a bit sharp too when she fancies it! Is a bit neurotic about being turned out before all her mates too- she hates to be left in, and has various other little quirks.
I've got one, I bought him before he was born as I knew his breeders and parents very well. He's my little dressage star though we dabble in other disciplines too. He has a huge sense of humour (a bit warped imo), he's boss of the field but a complete wuss to hack out on. Either a paragon of virtue (welsh wonder) or a complete thug (Welsh w****r), no middle ground!
I'd love one!! I had something on loan before I bought my Welsh D and he was fab. When I got him he was ancient (well, about 24) but had evented to Intermediate I think when he was younger, done BD to Elem or Medium, and I think had BSJA'd as well. His mum was a Welsh D and dad was a racehorse, but he looked more TB than anything, just with the Welsh brain. Apparently he was fabulous XC, really got himself out of trouble, but the Welsh bit of him made him unsuitable as a child's/young teenager's horse.
I want another for my next horse
I would say look carefully at the Welsh lines in the ones you look at. I know next to nothing about TBs but there are certain Welsh lines I would avoid as they're nuts.
