Hi all,

Have recently taken on a 6 year old welsh who is a sweetie in all respects, was easy to back, lunges beautifully, ties up quietly etc etc until this last week he has become very rude about moving backwards on the ground or side to side. Will open gates whilst ridden easily but trying to get him through the field gate takes a lot of manoeuvring and just looking for advice on how to overcome this.

When I ask him to move back he stands like a rock and as soon as I put pressure on his chest or leadrope to move backwards he does the opposite and tries to tow me off. Understand it is a respect thing but find it strange that he lunges, leads and behaves like a lamb in general it is just when asking this of him. Additionally, this behaviour has only really cropped up in the last week, previously he was fine.

Any help much appreciated, thank you!
