Turned up to the field today to find my wee welshie looking very sorry for himself stood on three legs.

He had - lord only nows how - managed to get his near hind stuck through the surcingle of his turnout rug.

He's not lame as such although you can see he's uncomfortable. From his hock down to and including his fetlock is very swollen. I've cold hosed it, managed to get him to stand in a bucket of water for a while but as i have no stables i've had to leave him out.

I figure that being able to walk around will hopefully help the swelling anyway. I suppose I could try to fashion a electric fence around his shelter?

The surcingle was 'holding' his leg just above the fetlock, his tendon seems to be ok but i'm not sure whether to get it looked at?

Should i have done anything else?

I have no bute but i don't really want him feeling better and running around and making it worse.

Thanks.

If he's OK on it I wouldn't worry too much, see what he's like tomorrow, you'll know if he's not OK.

Last year my welsh A was stood in the middle of the field looking sorry for himself, I went over to him and he had a belly strap stuck above his hock on an old scar, his leg was raw. Poor little man must have been stood LIKE IT all night, it was awful. I hosed that and put loads of aloe gel on it, it took weeks to heal. He hasn't got a stable neither, I think its better for them anyway to be using it.
Heres a picture, the old scar is from when he was a yearling colt and was caught in barbed wire, he's 11 now! Using that aloe gel was brill, it was always a bit patchy before he got the caught but now its covered in hair!!

Let us know how it goes, vibes for a speedy recovery!xx

Star had done this daft trick as well, but watch out for flies. Her hind leg which she trapped and scraped raw on a rug fastening was really attractive to flies and they did it no good at all!

Bloody horses!! Who'd have them!!
My yearling decided to shred his new masta rug the other day, I done 1 front buckle up and then he decided to walk off, so I went got headcollar but he wouldn't be caught. Then he decided to gallop around. The rug spun round and he totally ruined it! I was only putting it on cos he was shivering! He then had to freeze!
