OK, so am still thinking

I do think a Jazz x Weltmeyer might turn out pretty hot headed, perhaps too hot headed for ridden work... I have spoken to someone who knew the mare as a ridden horse and she had good trainability as a youngster which is good to know
wink.gif
She was actually bred by the breeder of Weltmeyer too
smile.gif

However, this is truly going to be my horse of a lifetime, so I don't ever want to think 'what if...' if that makes sense
smile.gif
I want to use the best possible stallion I can as this could be my once in a lifetime horse (and I hope it will be
smile.gif
).

When speaking to the above person who knew the horse, she recommended that I use something with 'a lot of blood' because Weltmeyers can tend to sit behind the leg and because she knows the mare. She also said it was difficult keeping to the Hannoverians because you find so many linked closely with Weltmeyer himself which is what I have come across myself.

So... I have a few ideas myself, but I know there are many experienced breeders on here who will have wonderful pearls of wisdom for me

I know I am leaving all this a bit last minute, but it is only something that has become possible recently

She is what I would call an older fashioned warmblood, quite substantial, so I am looking for something that will refine her a little and I really want to breed something with a powerhouse behind
wink.gif
However, a more modern type stallion would really complement her in my opinion.

Yes there was, I am just reading through that post now.

I couldn't find it initially when I was writing this one, but searched my own posts and found it (didn't know you could search your own posts
wink.gif
).

Krack C was one of the ones on my 'long long short list'
blush.gif

Just been reading the frozen semen quality for Krack C is not great... crossing him off my list as this mare has taken every time with chilled (first time) but unknown with frozen. If the semen quality is not great, that is too much of a risk for me to take.

Becky by the time you make your mind up the breeding season will be half over. Have you had her swabbed etc so that when you finally decide you will be ready to go?

Has she foaled yet? Or am I imagining you saying that she was due late? I certainly agree on getting her clitoral swabs done now though - they take 7 days to culture! I'm guessing that you may not go for endometrial/cervical swabs (which con only be taken when the mare is in season and initial culture is available at 24hrs), as you will not be doing natural covering.

She is currently holding onto her to foalie with every breathe she takes... she is quite overdue, huge and giving her poor owner a few sleepless nights
tongue.gif

I have to have decided on the stallion by the time she is ready to be inseminated but not in her foal heat... So once the foal has been born we will have time to do swabs etc in time for the semen being delivered and her being ready to inseminate again

United would be a good choice, Watching him in feb you really got to see that he had a phenomenal ability to collect, his movement is powerful and expressive and he was the sire of the Champion at the kwpn stallion show. Fantastic stallion!

It may be worth finding out when the Krack C semen was Frozen as i have heard that it has improved considerably since his retirement

As you want a stallion with a lot of blood and a good engine have you thought about using a Trakehner? Le Rouge is a gorgeous Trak stallion and proving himself both in competition and in the breeding shed despite only being 7 years old. He was placed top 10 at the Bundeschampionat in the 6 yo last year so was doing half passes and flying changes. The report from the Trak stallion grading mentioned the lovely manners of the Le Rouge colts as he had 7 selected for grading, an outstanding achievement from his first crop especially as one of them went on to be champion of the grading. He seems to put a wonderful brain on his youngsters and IMHO is one to watch. I've got a Le Rouge daughter from his first crop. She has one of the best brains I've ever come across as well as having outstanding movement.

Another very nice Trakehner is Axis. He is owned by the UK breeder Bluewood Trakehners but stands in Germany where he is competing extremely successfully up to Inter 1. He's quite young (10 this year) and has already had 2 sons graded as stallions. He has a lovely temperament and is very talented.

Another very nice young stallion is For Compliment. He hasn't been extensively used at stud but his offspring are getting rave reviews. His bloodlines are impeccable: Fidermark x Compliment. Well worth a look. http://www.schockemoehle.com/englisch/s535144.html

Wow! Le Rouge is a babe
smile.gif
I've not seen him before, he's just my type

Le Rouge looks very nice- good in front and behind, I really like his active hindleg in the trot. His canter is a bit show-ponyish and I wouldnt use him on a mare which didnt have a decent canter herself but he's certainly an interesting prospect

Le Rouge is such a lovely looking stallion... how old is he?

I am finding the decision really difficult, there is so much choice these days and so many different avenues to explore! It is really mind blowing the number of good quality stallions that are out there!

I would do a google search for Weltmeyer mare and see what are other people are breeding them to- look at pics of their previous foals on webpages and if you see something you really like, look into that sire.
There's so much info out there and it can give you a really clear picture of what you might be able to expect

what about 'united' think there was a link to him on your post about Jazz??????

I put the link to that. Did you have a look JS?

Yes, had a look
smile.gif

I think he is lovely but just not sure he is fine enough for the mare...

I don't have one due, it is my yard owner, the mare belongs to her, but because I think she is a really nice mare with excellent breeding both sides, I am hoping to breed from her this year so will have a 2010 foalie

Hi I have just replied to your PM, but the jist of it was that the thing that would put me off the most about that combination would be that you cannot find any successful progency with that breeding - as I would bet my bottom dollar it's already been tried plenty.

Because breeding is such a lottery really it would be more sensible to put your money into something that is a tried and tested successful combination over and over. It would be useful to find out how the mare is bred (exactly) and see if she has any full siblings that have been used for breeding etc.

Someone suggested Gribaldi to you I think (for refinement and blood). I really really rate him as a sire. I have ridden a few of his offspring and definitely recommend!! We have a Gribaldi stallion - so maybe I'm bias but so does Faberge (I think?!) on here and they are both gorgeous, oh yeh not forgetting Painted Black, Hofrat, Hoftänzer, Sisther de Jeu, Totilas!!! HAVE YOU SEEN TOTILAS *seriously swoon worthy*
TOTILAS! *drool*
A LINK TO GRIBALDI
Our Gribaldi (a little weedy looking on this photo as he was rising 4yo and 17.2hh!):
vince1.jpg

Whats the male equivilent of Yummy Mummy? Faddy Daddy? Whatever it is he's definitely gorgeous!

Good selections SS
wink.gif

Le Rouge is so under rated. His colts at Neumunster last year were really nice and he himself is a pussy cat in the stable but turns it on under saddle. The girl riding him now IMHO gets a far better tune out of him than the previous rider.

if you can afford it, Imperio is one of the nicest Trakehners around at the moment, but is unproven as a sire himself as he is only young. Won the Bundeschampionate last year and is a son of the wonderful Elite stallion Connery. Both stand here http://www.hoerem.de/ and its a good stud to work with

We have an Axis filly here we are just backing. I love her but she can be sharp (never in a nasty way) He adds in good jumping ability even though he himself is being campaigned in dressage.

Or, go for his father, the divine Kostolany! I'm sure his semen is still available.
smile.gif
He is known for his amazing temperament and readability, plus a world class piaffe/passage and passes on a brilliant neck and shoulder and an active hind leg. He's my favourite stallion of all time I think.
smile.gif

I would prefer chilled rather than frozen if possible...

She has had her foalie who is lovely, so the count down has started
blush.gif

I do like Gribaldi...

I still like Vivaldi, I find him quite an exciting young stallion, but it is always a risk to use something that does not have many progeny under saddle (if any...)

My main criteria at the moment for the stallion is something of good recognised breeding, quite a lot of blood, over 16.2hh, something that is recognised by the Hanoverian Stud (I am quite amazed at how many stallions have this ability) and something quite refined as she is what I would class an old fashioned type warmblood.

I am not very 'up' on my Trak breeding if I am honest, so am just looking into all the links people have offered me... Thank you for those, I am learning lots of new information
smile.gif

The mare has a really strong walk and quite large loose paces herself... she seems to pass this onto her foals
smile.gif

Have you looked at Lauries Crusader? TB that is one of top Hanoverian stallions. Rosario? Rousseau? Showmaker?
