Oh shame, doesn't seem that long ago when we saw him on his motorised schooter, a very wise and clever horse breeder.

One of the few people instrumental in changing the face of British sports horse breeding. He chose bloodlines that he believed would produce the perfect event horse, and wasn't swayed by the fickle trends of fashionable stallions.
He was proven right so often.

A true great of the horse world, RIP Sam, you will be sorely missed.

Oh how sad! I lived down the road from him and I used to see him ride up our lane frequently and he was well into his 80's then. He was always mounted on an impeccable horse (of course!).

RIP Sam Barr a true horseman

A real loss. He and his wife had such vision and belief in British breeding. A true role model.

Rest in peace Sam`- and thanks for all the lovely horses. had a grand-daughter of Gameful for 30 years, a real good'un. Condolences to family.
