Our morning started out very foggy and when we arrived (without the clutch going this time..
) there were people getting lost xc in the mist! It was so bad WW decided to sj indoors.. Which was fine, except Gilbert has never show jumped indoors!
Ho hum, onto the dressage..
A bit tense in places, slightly let down by my hurried movements thinking about where I'm going more than anything else.. Still, I've never had a good mark at WW
so I was pleased with a fair 37, under 40 so happy days.
He's proving to be pretty consistent in the dr, although I might try a bit change, he's lovely schooling in the Waterford but not so good in the fulmer (nutcracker mouthpiece) and I have just a tweak too little control in a french link, any suggestions anyone? For some reason I feel like trying a straight bar..
So, the dreaded indoor sj. I'm rubbish at sj anyway but we've been working hard with the trainer the past few weeks as I don't have arena and never do any grid work. We've been trying to stop him reverting back to hunting mode and steeplechasing everything and he really pleased me today, making some much better shapes. The plan of sit and wait went out the window a bit as I wanted to keep him forwards for his first time indoors as I was expecting his eyes to be on stalks! (Especially after breaking into trot into fence 1.. Cleared it though!
) Unfortunately I totally fluffed the last big yellow and black oxer and put him in a daft place, he was very genuine to go anyhow so pleased really, but cross with myself for chasing a stupid stride.
3 down, but should've been 2.. Pilot error! I'm actually starting to think he'll be better over PN height, well, that's what I'm telling myself!!
Xc looked really nice, as ever at WW. Spied a few of the PN fences, some rather large additions noted!!
Stormed out the start box, got that one sorted now (We had problems getting out of trot at our first event!) had an absolutely awesome round from there on in, he loves the job and has a great attitude on the xc course.. Goes when asked, stops and turns, great stuff!
Finished clear with 0.4 time.
Might not be a fabulous day on paper with another 12 faults sj, but he's feeling like a proper eventer now from the wobbly hunter that couldn't canter a circle or jump coloured poles I purchased at the start of the year. He also stood like a lamb all day munching hay and behaved very well in all the warm ups. Roll on Bricky Intro, then PN at Pulborough..
It was also lovely to meet Acolyte and her lovely dogs too!
Choccies and wine if you got this far, pro pics to follow when they're up.
