Our morning started out very foggy and when we arrived (without the clutch going this time..
smirk.gif
) there were people getting lost xc in the mist! It was so bad WW decided to sj indoors.. Which was fine, except Gilbert has never show jumped indoors!

Ho hum, onto the dressage..

A bit tense in places, slightly let down by my hurried movements thinking about where I'm going more than anything else.. Still, I've never had a good mark at WW

so I was pleased with a fair 37, under 40 so happy days.

He's proving to be pretty consistent in the dr, although I might try a bit change, he's lovely schooling in the Waterford but not so good in the fulmer (nutcracker mouthpiece) and I have just a tweak too little control in a french link, any suggestions anyone? For some reason I feel like trying a straight bar..

So, the dreaded indoor sj. I'm rubbish at sj anyway but we've been working hard with the trainer the past few weeks as I don't have arena and never do any grid work. We've been trying to stop him reverting back to hunting mode and steeplechasing everything and he really pleased me today, making some much better shapes. The plan of sit and wait went out the window a bit as I wanted to keep him forwards for his first time indoors as I was expecting his eyes to be on stalks! (Especially after breaking into trot into fence 1.. Cleared it though!
smile.gif
) Unfortunately I totally fluffed the last big yellow and black oxer and put him in a daft place, he was very genuine to go anyhow so pleased really, but cross with myself for chasing a stupid stride.

3 down, but should've been 2.. Pilot error! I'm actually starting to think he'll be better over PN height, well, that's what I'm telling myself!!

Xc looked really nice, as ever at WW. Spied a few of the PN fences, some rather large additions noted!!
shocked.gif
Stormed out the start box, got that one sorted now (We had problems getting out of trot at our first event!) had an absolutely awesome round from there on in, he loves the job and has a great attitude on the xc course.. Goes when asked, stops and turns, great stuff!
grin.gif
Finished clear with 0.4 time.

Might not be a fabulous day on paper with another 12 faults sj, but he's feeling like a proper eventer now from the wobbly hunter that couldn't canter a circle or jump coloured poles I purchased at the start of the year. He also stood like a lamb all day munching hay and behaved very well in all the warm ups. Roll on Bricky Intro, then PN at Pulborough..
grin.gif

It was also lovely to meet Acolyte and her lovely dogs too!
smile.gif
Choccies and wine if you got this far, pro pics to follow when they're up.

woop woop! soudns like a good day! I was there yesterday, it's lovely isnt it! though I was so glad I was sj'ing outdoors!
laugh.gif

well done, don't worry if it looks bad on paper, it's the progress that counts!
laugh.gif

well done you and gilbert! XC really sounds like it is getting there... is A building you evil grids now then?

I will come and cheer you on for the PN at pulborough - if i am still alive after the day before
grin.gif

Thanks V! Not sure he'll ever be a superstar but he's a genuinely nice chap and that's what matters at the moment. Will hang pictures of his rather more superstar like parents in his stable for inspiration!!!

Sounds like a good day, well done . Alwyas nice to finish the day with a smile on your face...xc is why we suffer the 1st 2 bits after all!!

Will try to look out for you at Pulborough

Thanks AR, Gilbert thinks the xc is the best bit too.
grin.gif

Will be great to see you at Pulborough!

Congratulations, sounds like you are making progress, I should be at WW tomorrow for novice, but can't go now unfortunately

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you Milz, that's a shame you can't go though, hope pony is ok?

Thank you Rachel, he's proving to be a bit of a dude xc.. I'm becoming more and more tempted to keep him..

A is building horrid things with bounces and blocks all over the place, poor G didn't know what had hit him!! On a positive note he's definitely improving for it, just wish the score reflected that a bit better...
tongue.gif
Would love to see you at Pulborough, and I'm sure you'll be fine the day before, remember what you tell me.. Just keep kicking.
grin.gif

oh, but she's different to ferds - If I kick her too hard, she'll run past it instead of going over it!
we are off to do SJ at the local terrifying fillers place, so at least we should get some of those issues ironed out.

think we need A to construct monstrous grids for us...

gilbert is a good boy - he always looks so genial and happy when he is doing the show jumping, and he does sound to be getting more careful with time too.

I don't think I'll ever ride anything quite like Ferdie.

I'm sure she'd oblige, some of her makeshift fillers are indeed terrifying!

He certainly tries hard, I'm very pleased his technique seems to be taking a step in the right direction, despite daft rider errors at the last fence.

Congratulations on your day! We were there also with our daughter and her 5 year old thoroughbred. Our dressage time was 8.14 and the fog was so bad her father and I couldn't even see her properly! The only thing I could make out was the white saddle cloth. Dressage score was 40 - which was ok but not as good as she's done before. Now SJ taught my daughter a lesson.........make sure your hat fits properly!! For months now I've said that I thought the hat didn't fit because in all her photos it seems to be over her eyes - well yesterday she cleared the double but hat slipped down and she couldn't see where she was going and missed jump 4 meaning she had to turn round and cross her tracks - which was a shame as she went clear round the rest so incurred 4 faults. XC was intesting from a spectator point of view because you could hardly see anything at all! She went clear but gained 9.2 time penalties for being too slow. All in all a good day for a 5 year old who only started eventing 5 months ago!

Thank you R_A. I think I saw your daughter show jump, or if I didn't I saw someone do exactly the same thing but then go clear. I'm also not surprised people were getting time faults xc, I think I would've been slower in all that fog..
crazy.gif

It does sound like an excellent day for a baby though.
smile.gif
Where are you off to next?

Having now seen the results, we're very pleased as she finished 15th in Intro section I. We had hoped to do Bath & West but now that's off the plan is to do the last intro at Broadway (I've put a super ballot sticker on the entry) - which will be special for us as our horse is part owned by a lady who lives next door (literally!) to the Broadway course.

Great, welldone
smile.gif
sounds like he's learning his trade and getting the hang of things - a good attitude is half the battle won isn't it!

You're not wrong jxd, his attitude to it all is really promising. I sometimes doubt his ability and wonder if he'll ever be careful sj but I guess time will tell, he's improving at least.
