Morning, planning on a trip to West Wilts on Sunday to do some unaff SJ. Just wondered what it was like in terms of where they have the warm up and SJ and whether there are lots of fillers. Went to Summerhouse 2 weeks ago so wanted to gauge what its like in comparison.

Thanks :)

Not been there before for their unaff SJ but have done some PC jumping there which I expect is pretty similar.. they do use some fillers but nothing particularly nasty, and they have nice wooden painted poles/jumps so no horrid bright J4Js! When I first did some jumping there a couple of years ago I thought it was really up to height, but that could easily have been my warped perception of things! :o They always used to have the warmup outside (surfaced) and then you went through into the indoor to jump, but since then they've put in a large outdoor school so it may well be in that? :)

God willing and assuming nothing goes wrong with horses, trailer or car my daughter and her friend will be there Sunday morning too, I haven't been there myself before but they have, they seem to like it. I know my daughter said she liked it because it was a little more technical than some of the local shows she had done previously. She's also done Summerhouse a few times but only outside and never mentioned if it was comparable. Her favourite indoor sj venue is Cholderton.

Initially they wanted to do Elmwood, the 2ft individual and 2ft3 pairs as both horses are still getting used to xc jumping but we were late registering and the classes were full, looks like a good shout now looking at all the rain.

The SJ will be indoors all Winter I believe as they don't have floodlights on the new outdoor arena yet :( They use nice wooden jumps with some painted wooden fillers... but none of the horrid jump for joy plastic stuff! Fair courses that are well built. Would personally say the jumps are more inviting than those at Summerhouse.

They build really nice. The smaller classes have either tiny fillers or ones not pulled over totally. Its a really good place to take babies (Horse or human!). If you do the clear round they don't mind you altering some of the fences, or going straight back round and paying later.

I too would say it was more inviting than Summerhouse.

West Wilts is a brilliant venue, normally indoors (everytime i have been it has been anyway). If the warm up is busy then there is not much room but if there is you and a few others it is ok, the arena is big light and airy.
I would say the fillers and jumps are less looky than Summerhouse who tend to jazz up even the wings (with moving flapping flags sometimes!)
All WW fillers are wooden, courses well built , and the arena surface is lush.
I'm planning on going up on sunday also!
Good luck.

(i'm skint1's daughter btw :))
