western riding lessons in Leics-anyone know where?

Another vote for soverein, great people fantastic horses nothing is to much trouble and loads of horses to look at ,cafe and tack shop.. you will want to go back..
 
Be careful, both places are equally great, but you WILL get hooked :D Your OH is in particular danger, because western is fun,cool and compared to english riding, very logical for men, for some reason !
I took mine for a couple of lessons as a birthday present a few years back....18 months later we had our own Quarter Horse. The OH became seriously competitive, I was relegated to groom except for selected classes that I was 'allowed' to do... LOL!
 
this could work in my favour....OH is on about moving, perhaps the thought of his own quarter horse would spur him on to buy somewhere equine friendly lol!!!!!

TBH it IS a sport that appeals to me, pweeeety ponies, loads of bling etc etc lol!
 
I would travel a bit further and go to Oakridge or Soverign. Think you would do well as a western novice as they have a large variety of horses
 
If you want to treat yourself while you are there both Oakridge and Sovereign have on site tack and clothing shops with all the big western brands.
Another warning - if you buy one pair of cowboy boots (and I mean proper ones, not from a fashion shoeshop) you will always need them in your life as they are so comfortable, so practical, so hard wearing. plus you can have them as blingy (or not) as you wish to match your outfit! I wear them virtually every day, and have some for work, some for going out, some for the yard etc etc :D

I have some Ariat boots which I love and wear all the time - was persuaded by my husband who wore cowboy boots constantly when he lived in Canada. I've never even sat in a Western saddle!
 
I would suggest the lesson, followed by planning a trip to Congress or the World Show.

I have to say PS, I can totally see you rockin' the WP and Horsemanship! I was subjected to an in depth conversation once about what outfit, saddle pad etc would best suit my hair colour!!
 
Definitely second (or third!) suggestions for lessons at either Oakridge near Newark or Sovereign near March, Cambs - indoor or covered facilities, lots of high quality lessons horses and riding school licences etc. Great coaching - and once you're hooked I've got 3 rather lovely QHs for sale, all pretty, pampered and looking good in blingage!
 
Catherine's fab but doesn't have schoolmaster horses,whereas Oakridge and Sovereign do.
Get hooked, buy one of Hen's three lovely horses and we'll see you over at Catherines's - we take our youngster over for clinics regularly!
 
Disagree about sovereign sadly. I got almost completely ignored for the whole of my (not cheap) lesson. Occasionally told to change gait but that was it, no exercises to do or constructive comments, too busy chatting to other people. He was very complimentary about my riding (which surprised me as I think I'm rubbish!) but I don't feel I learnt a damn thing and sadly would never go back. Shame as lovely horse, clearly well trained.

I'm realy suprised everytime ive been nothing was too much trouble and the lessons were comprehensive whys and wherfores explained ,and on a horse that realy did the job once I learnt where the buttons were... was the lesson with David ???
 
Squeeeeeaaaaaallllll Thank you PS! What an awesome idea for a Xmas present for OH. Ok he says he hates horses but surely every boy wants to be a cowboy really :)

I went to Sovereign last year with a couple of friends, we had different experiences...

I did enojoy it, and its a totally different way of riding, and Dave Deptford was very complimentary about my riding and had me doing all kinds of reining exercises- and i accidentally did sliding stop! he was seemed impressed i didnt fall off the front!

My friends however came out saying they had a similar experience to you KatPT - i dont know if it was because they were both so novice/nervous and took an age to get out of walk, so he lost interest (no suggesting in any way you're a novice/nervous rider KatPT) - i actually found he was quite rude to my friends - he was asking all about my horses/job etc etc. and paid very little attention to them at all... I also thought it was incredibly expensive...
