I am currently looking into buying a western saddle for my pony. I have been told that the weight distribution is much more even on a western than on an english. Does anyone know this to be the case or not?
Thanks

I am not sure BUT make sure any western gear you buy has all of the necessary accessories! Western saddles often require a rear cinch as well as a front one, and you need a connector strap to go between the two. Oddly, rear cinches are often very expensive compared to front cinches.
You may also want/need a breastplate. And adjusting western stirrups is different to English ones, so be prepared to take your time to get them perfect and then never change them, lol! It can also be difficult to find saddlers who have experience in fitting western saddles.
Certainly western saddles are very secure to ride in. But they can also be very heavy so consider this before purchasing. I have a lovely western saddle that I cannot use until I lose at least 2stone as it would be too heavy for my mare otherwise:(
Good luck, and happy trails!

Thanks guys. I am using Hooves Equestrian. They specialise in Western tack and are coming out to do the fitting. I am concerned about the weight of the saddle though too!!
