Does anyone who rides in a western style saddle know whether it would be possible to get one to fit a Highland pony. He is a full up 14.2 heavier type pony, typical round and flat backed. We are happy hackers and it occurred to me the other day that one of these might be ideal for what we do. I dont know anyone locally or even further afield tbh who rides in one, or anything about them. Anyone on here with any advice please?

I have an Eldorado Saddlery Caliente model, the delrin panels self adjust to your horse like a Reactor Panel english saddle. Don't know if anyone imports and sells in this country, I bought mine second hand but contacted Eldorado for further details and they were very helpful, they do export worldwide. http://www.eldoradosaddle.com/

D'you know I was going to suggest looking for a crossbred Aussie/western saddle too. I've never seen the ones posted above but that's what I'd take a look if I were you. If it's definitely a western saddle you would like to buy then there are a number of western outfitters in England you could check out. I wouldn't advise buying any of those synthetic ones made by saddlers who aren't western saddlers. Stick with a good leather American made saddle and you shouldn't go too far wrong.

Hi, I wouldn't ordinarily recommend western stuff as I don't know much about it but my YO rides western and has a tack shop. I went to a clinic with her a few weeks ago and she knows absolutely loads!! Im sure she would give you advice. www.thewesterndepartment.com

Yes you can, for sure. In addition to the suggestions above, there are some very useful 'do's' and 'don''ts' when it comes to Western saddle buying and fitting available on the internet or on Facebook on groups like Horse Junky (if you are a FB user).

Thanks all, you have given me a bit of hope :) Tarbs, have emailed your YO asking if she can offer any advice, cant be too far away from me as both of us in Bucks!
