Western stirrups + leather

hello,

I have a daft question, my OH rides in a Torsion treeless saddle and he now wants western stirrups for hacking about in.

Now I am having 2 issues,

1) I cant find the special leather + irons for sale and dont know where to look ( just tried ebay)

2) my OH is 6ft 8 and has a 40 inside leg, so getting leathers long enough might also be a challenge.

so another question I have - can you just attach western stirrups to English leathers?

I'm clueless about western tack, so any help and advice will be greatly received .

just had a quick look and found these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Light-Wei...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item25688461a3 which appear to be for english style stirrup leathers. The stirrups made for western saddles have a much wider neck and would slide around on english leathers and be generally quite unstable.

If R's suggestion doesn't work for your OH, ask a local saddler to make some for you

Failing that you could get them from Tandy Leather - they have a uk store but they may have to import them for you. You can also get new leather ones of Ebay.com (american) but they do tend to be pricey.

AH brill thanks for the replies - big issue - I'm entering in ebay searches western stirrups and not fenders haha!

Not found anything suitable just yet but I will keep looking now you have pointed me in the right direction - I will post a pic of the OH posing as a cowboy next time he wobbles out the front door in trot for a giggle XX
