Just wanted to know if anyone knew where I could pick up a western saddle and cinch for a plump 15hh cob for not too many pennies? It is not for my own use, but it will literally be used for pottering around, and maybe the very occasional trot. Any advice most welcome :)

There is quite a busy Western Riding community, there is a magazine called Western Horse with adverts for tack shops and individuals selling saddles.
Just seen you are in NI, so not sure what the scene is there. You can buy synthetic Western Saddles from Robinsons, which are an OK make.

I would be wary of buying a random make from Ebay as some of them are just tacked together in India and are not very safe or good for the horse.

Thanks orangehorse :) I have never seen a western rider here, but I am sure there must be a few!

be vary weary, there is so much rubbish about.

and do not beleive it if you are told one size fits all.

anything half decent will prob cost more than an average english.

(sorry)

I just took a chance and bought one on eBay...the seller did provide detailed measurements though. Worst case scenario, I sell it on if it doesn't fit. Not a made in India one, at least, so hopefully won't fall apart or hurt horse...

There are a few for sale on Gumtree and one other for a wide fitting on eBay.

You are not the only person in NI wanting a western saddle! Actually, I think there was someone down on the Ards Penninsula who did some sort of western riding schooling...

Good luck.

a true western saddle has wyoming on a silver plate on the fender like mine

ask the seller on ebay to make sure u see this or i wouldnt buy it

I second the comment made on buying saddles from Ebay. Some can be decent but most of them are cheap for a reason! I personally had mine from America but it cost half a leg though but I'm quite sure of the quality! You'll find anyway that Western saddles are more expensive than English anyway (unfortunately )

http://www.thewesternshop.com/ I bought a cinch from here a while back, not sure what they're saddles are like but I know they do sell saddles so it might be worth a look?

http://www.westerntackstore.co.uk/e...GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es116224_es122816249838 Again you can try here? Again I've never bought anything more than a saddle blanket and a headstall but saddles might be worth looking at.

http://pullmanwesternstoreuk.com/westernsaddles.html I know my friend bought a saddle from here, I can't remember the price she paid however I can ask when I see her.

Keep a look out on websites like the 'AQHA' website as often people advertise their unused tack on there :) I know that the links may not be that much help but it's a start perhaps? I looked for a long time to find a saddle to fit and in the end spent a fortune :D
