Seems my banging on wasn't in vain..............Westie has been to the vets, it has had a phantom pregnancy and does now have an infection so is on a course of antibiotics. So [****] it was left soooo long

, but at least it is getting the much needed treatment now.

Their vet has advised they get her spayed in a couple of months time..................hopefully they will do so, but think they are worried about cost, did tell the grandmother that the cost of a planned spay is small fry compared to the cost of an emergency one!!!

Oh good, well done.
At least it didn't eat the contents of the laundry basket or they would have had some real fun with the vets bills!

Depending on their income, I think Dogs Trust can help with the cost of spaying, if they are worried.

Good on you CS. Tell them to shop around a bit for a price for spaying. There are two vets around here and their costs are miles apart (guess which one I am registered with!!)

They've been told it will be about £120 (which sounds about normal for round here), but you've guess it are already umming and arhhhing about whether they can afford it or not!!!!

I did then point out that a) their bitch is now high risk of Pyo as already had one infection and a phantom and b) better to have a Spey done on a fit heathy dog than one that has to have one as an emergency Op. due to Pyo (as my dickhead brother had to have his bich done), as better for the dog and much cheaper (think it cost my brother about £800.........emergency Op. on a Sunday!!!).

Do you know how they would be able to find out???

I'm sure I heard that the RSPCA sometimes gives out vouchers for half price neutering, but again haven't a clue where to direct them to get this sort of assistance (it really would be in the dogs best interest to be Speyed as she might not get away when habouring an infection for so long another time).

Thanks for the link, but they aren't in an area the dogs trust run schemes in. Looks like RSPCA might be the only option as having done some digging looks like the just need to contact their local office (my have to review my opinion of the RSPCA if they come through on this one

). It annoys me that the cost is putting them off spaying as I will lay money they won't be giving their weekends out up in order to save the money needed for the Op.
