Just about back in the land of the living after getting home at 2am yesterday morning.

Weston was my first 3 day and quite an eye opener. Weston Park was a lovely venue but not blessed with the best weather particularly early in the week. The stable area became a mud bath and I don’t think the lorry or contents will ever be the same again!

We had a fantastic time. First trot was on Wednesday which went fine and then dressage on Friday. Being a 1* test it was easier than what we have been doing lately with no lateral work. She tried really hard and made no major mistakes although there is still plenty to be improved on. We scored 53.8 which I was really pleased with and put us in 31st position in a field of over 80. Top half!

The cross country had some quite tricky combinations and 3 waters. In particular a corner to a sunken road to a corner and a skinny to trekenner to skinny on a turn caught some out. What really worried me was the optimum time of 8.42 – the course was just under 3 miles and the going sticky would she be fit enough? She jumped a super clear round 3 seconds inside the time she was a bit green at a couple of combinations but jumped the waters really well. She finished a bit tired but when the vets checked her heart rate she had recovered pretty quickly which was good. So after XC we were in 18th which with rosettes to 20th was getting me very exited.

She was fine for the final trot up it was amazing how many stiff horses were evident. The show jumping was big and causing massive problems. The ring was on a slope and the going still a little sticky and the course was right up to height. Average score seemed to be 12-16 faults particularly as time was also tighgt.

Sarnita’s SJing is her strength but it is very different jumping on the 3rd day of an event. She warmed up nicely despite my nerves. She went in and jumped a super round we made one mistake when I saw an impossible stride and she came down on the back rail but finished with 4 faults. I felt this should be good enough to keep us in the rosettes but hadn’t realised just quite how badly it was jumping we moved right up to 7th. I was over the moon and we won the prize for the most improved position after dressage. A fantastic end to a brilliant season for us. I’m trying to persuade her it is time for a holiday but she doesn’t like time off so we will see.

Anyway back to reality I have about 10 loads of washing to do and the washing machine has just died!!

we are all so pleased for you guys! youve had a brilliant season, and something for us all to inspire too.

Good luck next week at Aldon!

So although Sarnita is on holiday, what are your aims for next season?

Wow, brought a tear to my eye as got so excited for you reading this

What a fantastic result and combination you both are, I hope there are photos to follow

Shame about all the mud, took me ages to clean everything after chepstow and that was cancelled half way through so can guess how dirty everything is, yuck

Hope she enjoys her hol if she decides to have one

Are you at Aldon? - Might get to put some names to faces if so.

Hope to consolidate at Intermediate next year and hopefully do a 2* 3 day might even look at going abroad as this can almost be cheaper! I am struggling to finance it also I have no facilities at my DIY yard so I guess sooner or later we will reach a point beyond which we can't progress. I guess though the ultimate ambition is a 3*

Brilliant well done - I am in awe how you have the time to do two horses DIY, travel a minimum of 2 hours to event and work full time.

Wow how fantastic!!

i really love hearing about you doing well, as you make do with no facilities like me! It can be done

Hope you achieve all you want to from next year, roll on 2007!

Im grooming for MdeM at Aldon!

I think travelling abroad is a good idea

the events are well run - best speaking to Tigers_eye or Millbrooksong. I have had friends who say they prefer to compete aborad

There is no chance of you moving then? further inland?

I think 3* is more than likely on your cards
smile.gif
I think you should chose Blenheim

Any time you think you need a base through the summer look me up, Im very central and have room.

Hope to see you at Aldon then.

Vx

Fantastic result, really enjoyed reading your report. You are a real inspiration and proof that hard work and determination does pay off.
Well done

Brilliant result, very well done, that will look fantastic on her record and no harm in the "most improvement" prize. Is she physicly ok after that? After the dramas with F I would get a horse scanned 10 days after a 3-day now as a matter of course I think, and I'm not rolling in money exactly, just so I could be sure about what to do over the winter etc, especially after mud. He did ok at Bramham and Blenheim without a school

What a briliant report, sounds absolutely terrifying tho.
What a brave and honest horse she is. Really don't know how you do all that travelling tho' I can't face more than about 20 miles

I like reading reports from the supposed lesser mortals when they have done so well, it reminds me that eventing is supposed to be an amateur sport still. and that corner combination or a version of it was in the 2* so it sounds like the 1* was tough enough. really well done!

Now wouldn't that be great - our own HHO person at the Olympics (I think we managed a horse at the last para-olympics, so who knows!), anyway, well done!

Fab result !! well done both of you !

Weston is always the same - mud, mud, mud !

competing abroad is fab, but needs lots of organising and can work out very costly... best thing to do would be to find someone else to tag along with to share travel expenses etc. Definately worth looking into though, v exciting!
