We packed up the horses yesterday morning as normal to go jumping at weston lawns... all was fine until we got there and i opened the ramp to find this:

Cue major panic...and after checkng the rest of them i discovered one more with injuries that were going to need stitches. Luckily everyone at weston lawns was amazing, provided us with a couple of stables and called the vet, who came and stitched them both up. Luckily Arctic had only managed to rip the flesh and although the wound is big, it is only superficial. So we waited for the dope to wear off and finally loaded all the horses to go home. It was the most nail biting journey ive ever done, as i was worried they would hurt themselves again or rip open their stitches....

Luckily, Arctic was fine, the other mare however....was not. She is currently at Rossdales having banged her head *again* and split it open *again* going into the jaw joint.

Yesterday really was the day from hell. I'm not sure if i am out of Hickstead yet or not, because after long discussions with the vet IF Arctic doesnt rub the stitches out and IF there isnt any infection, the stitches can come out in 8 days and he will be fine to go (i have been advised to continue riding him gently)

Arctic today:

So, can i please, please have some healing vibes? Some for the mare currently at horsepital and some for Arctic to heal well!!

N xx

I bloody hate pulling down the ramp whenever i get somewhere - i'm always expecting a heap of oozing horse flesh or just a couple of headcollars dangling in the breeze.

Hope they both recover soon!

Ouch, vibes they are both ok and healing well xxx
do you know how it happened??

I'm not entirely sure, the mare definitely banged her head. She is in season and i think she was objecting to the horses next to her by tossing her head, something a pole guard could of prevented....but its too late now

Arctic we're not too sure, i think he caught himself somehow, again had i put a rug on he probably would of been ok, but it was really warm and i thought he'd sweat up. Hey ho....

Ouch - lots of healing vibes for both of them
My grey had a very similar injury as a 5 year old (3 days before Herts County

) and it healed very well without scaring so fingers crossed for Arctic

It may well have been worse if he was wearing a rug, got caught up and panicked

stupid question, but has this ever happened before, ie small wound, have you had a good magnifing look at your lorry, it looks as if you have a bolt or screw somewhere, which is causing that damage....lorries can be a bitch, you think that everything is safe, but somewhere is a small but very dangerous screw or nut head. we had a lorry two years ago, and after two accidents we literally took it apart to find a small innocous screw holding rubber at bottom of partition that would have torn your little finger off....good luck hope wounds heal well.

Hey hun, was wondering if you would put an update on today! Good news about the stiches coming out i 8 days (fingers crossed!) It certainly looked much worse than it possibly was if that makes sense! Lots of healing vibes heading your way!

oh god

it reminds me when i got my pony- we hadnt even bought him yet and hed cut just above his eye.... so not fun... it healed very quickly and you cant see the scar anymore.
Lots of healing vibes, hope you dont miss out on hickstead!

God that is a nightmare - especially since two of them managed to get hurt. Could something have happened to make all the horses panic hence the two injuries? We had a two injuries after a truck carrying loads of gravel passed the lorry and it was shedding a little of its load. the noise of the stones hitting off the lorry made them freak.
Id also echo the going round the lorry feeling every part of it from all directions. My friend converts lorrys and after she had finished we all had a turn at doing this and managed to find a couple of screws and a metal edge that *might* have been a problem and we managed to sort it out.

Vibes for the mare in the vet school and hugs for Artic who im sure will heal great and hopfully be fine for hickstead.

Gosh, how awful. I hope Arctic makes a speedy recovery - follow vets advice to the letter and you will have every chance of making it to hickers!

Also healing vibes to mare in horsepital! xxxxxx

Just saw your post about this - Pat was telling me about the mare when he was out changing Ron's bandages on Friday - nightmare! Hope she's ok? He sounded very concerned.

Sorry about Arctic xx
