Well, I had an interesting start when mum andI had stopped to fill the lorry up with fuel and soon after we were back on the dule carrageway (I sure I've spelled that wrong!) I heard a scraping noise but thought it was tree branched so I ignored it. About a minute later I looked out of the window and just below the side mirrors I saw something hangin off the lorry! I told mum again and again ad again but she wouldn't believe me an said "You'll have to be a bit more subtle than that if you want me to fall for one of your April fools". So I hung out of the window and took a poto an showed this to mum:

To which she replied "Oh!" and promptly pulled into the next lay by and me being siuper an all fixed it and we were on our way again!
I entered for the 90cm Am Champs class, tacked up got on and suddenly a coloured stallion with it's bride around it's legs ran across the hill of dirt (we were parked right in the bottom corner of the car park for anyone who knows WL) and jumped down into a field of 5 horses! Olympic thought this was great fun and started bucking and was being a bit of a Timmy
smirk.gif
I wet for a walk aorund the car park....cue more bucking when he go a nudge in the ribs when he nearly walked into a parked lorry
smirk.gif

We went to warm up and he just switched off so we jumped a few practice fences which he made a bit of effort over and we went into the ring. He really wasn't going forwards and we got in a bit deep to the first fence so he put in a big jump and out jumped me then tried to bugger off bucking. Second fence was a bit better and about 3 strides away from number 3 it was as though a switch was flicked in his had because the ears wet forwards and he was off! We had a fab clear in the first round so we went straight into the jump off and I took it easy because I don't get on with 1m fences but he pinged aorund and we were clear again

I was so chuffed and he decided to do his own lap of honour
smirk.gif
Sadle we were a bit to slow so out of the placings but I think we were in the top 20 (this was out of 69 starters) so I was pleased!

Sorry about my ramble!

Well Done, I was there today as well, cant believe how many people where there, we left at about 2.30pm and they were just on the 3rd class in each ring!!!

I jumped in the 105m which I swear looked HUGE in that arena today and managed to get placed 7th out of like 40 so dead chuffed with him.
grin.gif

Jumped me other horse in the 80cm and came 6th n then went in the 90cm n had the last fence down in the 1st round, just made up to much distance after the double, but really pleased with him as been having a few teething problems with him!!!
grin.gif

Hope you fixed your lorry?

ya I know! When he goes he goes like sh1t off a shovel and he's good at tight turns aswell but once he get's going...........I can't stop again! I reallykicked him on becaue we were going to fast to make a tight turn to the last fence s we went quickly around the long turn, jumped the last fence and 1 lap of the arena later we stopped

Prittstick: The photographer wasn't there for my class
frown.gif

Joules: well done! Loads of people were taking out that back rail on number 8. I was 7th to go in the 90cm and I hung aorund until the end of the class, we were there aaaages
crazy.gif

Boss: Aw thank you
grin.gif

FMC: Nope, I needed it though after the jump over the first fence, I don't think I could have looked any more unneat if I'd tried
blush.gif

I know what you mean Flintus - the fences kept falling down in the 105m - one girl got ditched as she jumped into the combination the second part collapsed and not surprising it stop her horse in its tracks then jumped sideways... poor girl didnt have any chance of staying on!!!

Thanks Super_Kat... I was about 4th to go so must have been warming up the same time as you... wouldnt know what you look like mind plus im blind as a bat at the best of times!! lol What was up with the back rail on number 8? How long was that course tho?? Almost grateful that I had 4f as I dont think Blaze had the energy for the rest of the course ha ha

This is the 3rd weekend in a row that I've been there, first weekend 4 fences blew down when I went into the ring, last weekend it was breezy and today it was blowing agale again!

I thhink everything was either getitng a bit deep or taking off too far out and were lading on that back rail with their hinds on the way down.
The JO course was: after 8 you had o track left and go down over that white fence wih the red and yellow bits in the middle (towards the cafe), then track right and up then through that big grey and white double, track right again and down over that wavy piece of crap and then a left turn by number 5 and over no.1 again
laugh.gif
There were some spots where beople really had to put their foot down ad there was only one spot to make a tight turn.

My horse was the lanky chestnut (being held by a woman in a beige coat) who was digging holes in the warm up while I was walking the course and watching the first rider jump
grin.gif

Ha ha I was there last weekend too!!
Came 2nd last week in the 90cm on a little grey, today was jumping a big chestnut with a white face... like I say prob saw you but wouldnt know who you were!!

Yeah I made up to much distance after the double at number 7, dont really know how, we wernt storming up there but I surpose in hindsight I should have grabed him and steadied him... always easy after the event!! :-) But hey if everyone was having trouble on that distance maybe it was dodgy making the 4f not seem so bad !!

Your first proper BSJA show as a member and you go DC. Well done. You might have got a point for the regional leauge for going DC as well.

Well done
smile.gif
A few more like that, testing the brakes and steering on the way, and you'll soon be in the placings
wink.gif
It'll stop feeling quite so quick soon too
tongue.gif

I think the other thing that worried me was going quite quickly into afence increases the risk of me cocking it up
tongue.gif
I was very plesed with him though
laugh.gif

I'v got a lesosn with Geoff L next Tues so hopefully we'll be able to go out the weekend after next and do better
grin.gif

DD - Thank you

How can I fin out if I've got a point of not?

We got there around 1.30pm and they were doing the 80cm. We left at 5.15 and they had not long started the British Novice. We were with a friend who was jumping the New/110 and the Fox in the other arena so didn`t get much of a chance to watch many in the Weston arena.
I did see one girl though amazingly stay on after her horse jumped the first part of the double rather big, the girl got jumped out of the saddle and was literally on the horses side. The horse was so honest that he jumped the 2nd part of the double with the rider on his side, and even more amazingly threw the rider back into the saddle. It was pretty impressive, but then the horse just veered out to the right instead of doing the related distance onto the next fence. It was breath taking to watch.
It was very windy and there were lots of people there yesterday. Course builder in the John Wells ring is a friend, and he said that they were still jumping at 8pm!
He said that although he had the verticals in the Fox standing at 1.25m, there were a lot of clears, he said that they were `pinging them`.
I am hoping to go on Thursday but I will be ringing first as I don`t want to turn up at 12, to find out that my first class doesn`t start til 4.
crazy.gif

Are you going over the Easter weekend Super Kat?
Anyone else going?

LOL!

So proof at last of what we always knew anyway.....coursebuilders DO build overheight
shocked.gif

They can`t have too many go clear. There is a little thing going on with course builders, They aim to have about 1/3 go clear, then it is a good course.
wink.gif

He said yesterday that out of 40 something there was nearly 20 clears, cant remember exactly how many, but it was almost 50% clear. He said that the only other thing was to allow 70 seconds instead of 80 something. He said it all in good faith tho.
grin.gif

I know, the classes were big this week, we were on our way home at 4:45 because I wanted to wait until the end of the 90cm (to see if by some miracle I'd been placed
tongue.gif
).
I'll be going to Geoff's yard in Banbury to have a lesson
laugh.gif

There were so many people there, I was looking around to see if I could spot you but I didn`t have a clue. I was trying to listen to the names going in too but I did spend a lot of time with a friend who was competing in other ring. Very well done for the DC.
Have a good lesson and fill us in with what happens.

I was speaking to Kevin (coursebuilder at Weston Lawns) and he said he had built very sympathetically on Sunday due to it being a lot of peoples first outdoor show and he didn't want to scare the horses or riders. I know the Newcomer and 115cm were not up to height, because i had been laughingly complaining about it!

As far as i am aware you are not allowed to build over height in the first round and the jump off is only allowed to go up by another 10cm maximum (BSJA Rule book).

LOL!

They're not *supposed* to build overheight in the first round...but they often do
shocked.gif
It's easy enough on a surface to measure the height in a more favourable position...or not....if you wish
smirk.gif
You are right though, the JO should go up no more than 10cms
