Hello, im a newbie on here, just wondered if there was anyone on here that could help me. 12 months ago a bought Warmblood, i did not know her breed, and what little i have found out about then breed has been on here!!
She has a pink papered German passport, she is branded and there is a stamp in the back of the passport that says ' in das Stutbuch I.II with the II crossed out and Vorbuch' also crossed out, then there is a date under this and a name.
Her Dam is St. Pr. St Haupstutbuch Reudina, her sire is ECU and her Grandsire is EHRENTUSCH.
I know i must sound so silly for buying a horse i knew so little about, but she is a beautiful girl and she cost me hardly nothing, she is fit and healthy and i am unsure if she is rideable.
I know very little about grading, the breed and her bloodlines other than what the internet has helped with!
if any one can help me at all or point me in the right direction i would be so greatful!
thank you very much.xx

How old is she? have you tried riding her or has she an injury that makes you think she is unrideable?

From her advert it looks like she has been busy having foals so is rather green.
Who is her dam in the passport?

No reason not to ride her but start of in a safe environment. You will need to start from scratch after three foals.

The main studbook is held at Warendorf. You could try writing to them there for more info about your mare.

I have a 28yr young Westi lad. They are a lovely breed. I would have another one in a heartbeat - they are not easy to find over here. :)

The advert referred to , I think, was placed in March this year, but the OP has owned this mare a year????

OP if you Google ECU you will find the ad on Horsehunter.com and if that is not your mare you can contact the owner to see if you can find more about her history because it's her full sister. If that is the mare, is it you selling her, and if so can we ask why?

Hi all, yes she has just had a filly foal Easter sunday, it was a really hard decision and i only decided to sell her due to personal finances, no fault of her own at all.
i really would like to keep her, which was why i was trying to find out a bit more about her breed, passport etc.
i know of the people that had her before me, but not to speak to or contact, and i think she was just kept as a pet and never ridden. which i dont understand why at all. as she has always been in foal i have only done a bit of light lunging, early on, and free schooling. obviously ive not done much, as i had just weaned her foal, and she had been served again. she has no obvious injurys, she has clean legs, her back and hips are all ok, and she has lovely paces, she is a really nice big hunter type.
i was trying to decide if it was worth trying to ride her (obviously starting from scratch very slowly) or if i still have to sell her, to sell her on her own and not served by an unregistered stallion, if i have to sell her, i want to do the best by her, and get her the best home i can. Thats why i ve asked for help with her breeding etc, as i just dont have the knowledge. i cant contact her previous owners, as there is nothing in the passport that is english, and only her breeders name is on it, the passport isnt even in my name at the moment as i hadnt a clue how to get it done, and the onlyjoy i got was that i could get her overstamped with AES, who her last foal is registered with.
Sorry i must sound lie a complete idiot with all of this, any help or views are much apreciated!! thanks all.

Hi, just trying to answer questions, Her dam is St. Pr. St Haupstutbuch Reudina

she is 11 years old.

I have owned her while she has had 2 foals, one now a yearling, one a week old, i know at some point she had her first foal, i dont know where, or at what age.

Looking at her vaccines they are in english and date back to 2007. i know that the people who owned her before me, do not live in the area she was vaccined, as they were local but have moved away, so this may be previous owners that had her. however there is no owners names in her passport only breeding information.

Ive tried them but didnt get a lot response!! yes they are the most gorgeous horses i have met, big gentle giants and so respectful, really lovely horses.xx

I have a pink papered Westphalian. I contacted the Westphalian Breed society at Warendorf and I was told that the passport does not hold the owners name. You should have a signed 'ownership certificate' which passes ownership from one owner to another on sale. The same applies actually with many breed passports these days. I don't have the signed certificate for my boy. The breed society are only concerned to add owners names to passports on stallions and very well bred mares. That was what they told me, when I rang them.

Gary Williams in Colchester breeds Westphalian dressage horses. You could always call him to see if he could assist with her breeding information.

They are a beautiful elegant breed without doubt.

Hi, thank you for that, all the information is helpful. i dont have a certificate, so i will give them a call and see if they can help in any way.
The few bits and bobs of information i have is from breeders and studs, but i always feel a little rude asking for help as i am sure they are so busy!
it is good to know there are some other people with the breed, there dont seem to be many people that know of Westphalians, i didnt before i got mine!
so thank you again for your help.:)
