My theory, back in the 19????whenever they came out, lol, did we all have them on too loose as we liked the flappety flap sound???Honestly mine are done up quite tight and they dont move and flap against each other???

LOL!!!!

I have just started jumping again after a "few" years off!!! The flapping sounds helps me to get the stride right! Flap! Flap! Flap! Jump! Well launch perhaps! But I'm sure it helps!!!

They ARE making a comeback, I saw them advertised in one of the National Horsey mags recently!!

Must dig out mine: pink and black!!

The new ones are supposed to be quieter.

I have just won a pair and am wondering whether they really are safer for eventing. If so I will keep them - thoughts please?

Pebble, i think they're very good for eventing, i know of lots of riders who won't use normal overreach boots at all because they've had horses tread on them (especially through water, or going up a step out of water) and had a horrible fall or stop because of it. i won't jump a fence without overreach boots, personally, and think these are as good as any, if not better.

Westropp have relaunched them now that they have been bought over by Shires, they new ones are a different type of plastic, less flimsy and heavier which means they dont make as much of a noise! Local tack shop has the new ones in for sale, dispay set are BRIGHT pink, think they sold out as they had none left at all when I went in 2 weeks later...!

I was always told to use then for eventing/xc as they were safer... might have to get a pair when the pink ones come back into stock...

Oh my god .... Only the other day, I was speaking to a friend of mine, whose horse wears velco overreach boots 24/7

.. and she was saying she was going to buy some of the 'pull on' type, whereas I said I did not think you could get them anymore ...... but I then went on to say 'Oh I hope they don't bring those Westtrop ones back again, as they used to drive me nuts' .... I must be Psychic

I used to love the noise mine made

but I stopped using them when my pony died & I bought my mare who was v.naughty & would've used the noise as an excuse to spook & be silly. I've still got them, maybe I should dig them out for my new boy! Mine are just plain white tho, none of these fancy colours you lot have

Why aren't they available in green or yellow!!!!!!!!

HUMPF.

I have emailed them to request these colours!

Alternatively will have to be chic and go with black to match XC boots, however can tape over boots with yellow and green tape - DA DAAAA! Now there is a solution!

2 years ago ... i was soo ahead of the comeback !!

Ditto.

It was a sound that takes me back to my younger childhood. Just reminding me of them just brought back a memory of watching a girl jump her black section D at the yard one hot summer.

I think I may buy some!
