In light of the appalling weather lately, I thought I'd start a thread where we can share the various products/items/hacks that make life with horses a little bit more bearable when it's constantly raining!

I'll start:

1. Thermatex leg wraps
-brilliant overnight on cold damp legs which helps ward off mud fever, particularly if liquid mud has had to be hosed off
2. Snuggy hood tail bag
-I've got a grey and this bag is brilliant! Hasn't come off in the field despite lots of hijinks and means I only have to wash his tail occasionally, and it stays white.
3. Snuggy hood head
-no more scraping mud off his face! Washes very well and doesn't slip.
4. Ski trousers
-life savers!! cheap to buy, brilliantly warm and very waterproof despite horrible weather.
5. Lincoln spray pig oil
-much easier to spritz on than the normal pig oil and really does work a treat keeping legs clean and mud-fever free

Recently spent £28 on trawlermens waterproofs they are the best thing I have ever bought, Cover me from head to foot and I havent been wet since you do need warm clothes underneath but they are the best

Husband who is willing to help?

good waterproof coat

good water proof rugs

not a must have but we have a small sand pen horses can go in for leg stretch / roll when not going out or maybe on confinement for injury, i often throw chance in to it wile mucking out and the mud doesn't complete go but it does dry pretty quickly so makes it easier to brush off!

Space at the stables to wash turnout rugs that bare no resemblance to the original product and understanding OH when rug is brought home to dry in the airing cupboard

Just Chaps over trousers, Decent turnout rugs, rug drier, washing machine for horses (their clothes obviously but one for the actual horse would be nice too!), hot water shower.
And an indoor school - if only!

Some kind of illegal stimulant to get you through the day after a sleepless night listening to the wind and imagining trees coming down, taking out the fencing and horses getting killed on the road?

(None of the trees around my field are likely to do that, but it doesn't stop it seeming inevitable at 2am in the middle of a storm...)

Why do our brains do this to us?

The traffic stopped dead about 200 yards from my field this morning (on a busy A road that neighbours the side of the field.) Instead of thinking there must be an accident or water on the road I automatically thought 'the fence is down the boys are out on the road, god what am I going to do!!'

they weren't, they were grazing in the rain!! And my fencing is good quality and double lined on the road side anyway.

In Surrey three horses did escape this morning due to the storm. One got hit by a van. I know it went to hospital, so hope its ok. :-( Closer to home some dogs were let out to pee and got scared. People are still looking for them.
