Wet weather + what to do re rugs

My TBx is out 24x7 naked. He is a very 'hot' horse and gets too warm very easily but he does shiver after a heavy shower too so I find this time of year a bit 'can't do right for doing wrong'!

I went to stick a rain sheet on him yesterday as the temp had dropped and the clouds looked threatening... he felt very warm to the touch so I changed my mind halfway back to the yard and let him go again!

Would rather he was too cool than too hot, he has plenty of shelter in the field so I think I'll leave him naked unless the weather takes a significant turn for the worse

Mine are mostly naked

Charly - rescue mare, trakehner, bit skinny but putting weight on slowly.

Gina - trakehner, a heffalump anyway

Molly - trakehner looks well covered

Cassie - welsh a, on the good side.

Coco - shetland, looks fine

Salad - tersk, lw rug because he's a hard doer, doen't matter if he gets wet, but if he gets cold he drops weight v quickly

Errrmmm....sire is 13.2hh and dam 13.3hh but Alfie has been fed and on good grazing since he was a foal so should be bigger hopefully

Mines been out naked in the day and in naked at night unless she sweated while being ridden so then I put a cotton sheet on her. But today its been raining almost constantly and luckily the yard owner put her lightweight on her so she wasnt wet through. I got her in about 3ish and rode and have kept her in now.

I'm gonna try not to baby her with piling on rugs. (Only just bought her if ya didnt know)

I knew a girl who had about 7 or 8 rugs on her horse in the winter including an anti-roller on top of that! She had a newmarket and a blanket amongst those rugs. Said she liked her mare to keep her nice soft coat instead of getting hairy.

I've never been convinced that good food can make them grow bigger...but it sounds like he's on track to make 13.3hh at least...it's a decent height unless you're tall, like me
