We had our indoor school resurfaced a few years ago and try as we might as we are metered with water, we cannot get a good soaking as the sprinkler you can only leave a certain time as people use the school or horses coming in and out over it the hose may puncture it.

Now I heard of one person hiring a fire engine to soak it, (we have one on livery here but it is decommissioned. Is there such a thing where you can get a tanker with water and could spray many gallons over the school as it is deep in places and the little water I do seems to make no difference. Thanx :)

Look up zinc chloride flake. It is used to hold water in indoor riding school surfaces and it may help.

our hose is literally outside the jockey door ( 5ft ) so distance is no the problem its getting enough water without spending hours and hours with the hose

I feed it :)

But when I was looking up buying it in bulk, I came across its use to keep surfaces moist because it likes to hold water. I handle it with no gloves, I can't imagine that it would hurt their legs, but you can buy a kilo off ebay and test it before going for bulk.

I found the above on magnesium, too. I can't find the zinc stuff now, maybe I meant magnesium all along, I feed so many blessed chemicals I get confused!

Could you collect rainwater from the roof, into a large water butt to use to water the school from a bowser with sprayer attachment - we've one mounted on our garden tractor to spray the weeds (a home made affair of a drum mounted on a bracket, which connects to a sprayer attachment that's towed)

How often do you need to wet it?

If it's infrequent I'm sure if you gave advance warning to liveries and put up a notice saying the school will be unavailable on a certain date/time, that would be acceptable?
