They’ve arrived. All ten of them ❤️ Eight boys, two girls - which is just what was ordered as more dogs than bitches wanted on the waiting list.

All sable and some lovely dark ones in there.

The difference? They are less than a week old at the moment. I will go down and choose mine when he is around six weeks and then collect him a couple of weeks later. All pups are booked but I get pick of the dog pups.
 
How exciting. I bet you can't wait. Do you have a strategy for how you will pick one or will you just see how you feel? How old is Zac now? How do you think he is going to feel about the arrival of a puppy?

Ah apologies ... have just realised you own the stud dog & are not the bitch owner so my question didn't make sense much sense. Good luck with your pick of the (male) litter! I've seen people choosing their pup at birth these days & don't think i'd be happy with that - surely they are choosing based only on sex or colour?

No strategy for choosing my pup. At six weeks it’s hard to really know how they’ll turn out when mature so I’ll likely choose the one that appeals to me in terms of playfulness, confidence and aesthetics. Zak will be 8 years in March. He’s used to pups as all the working collie pups are raised in the house for the first few months before going outside. He lives in with two other dogs (my other GSD who is 10 years) and my OH’s retired collie bitch. I’m anticipating his nose being out of joint a wee bit but will make sure he still gets as much attention and exercise as he’s used to.

Ah I see, I didn’t understand your question but that makes sense now. I won’t make a decision until they are six weeks as their personalities will be starting to come out then but it’s still really pot luck as the most outgoing confident pup may not be like that as an adult. Similarly the quiet, more shy type of pup could go on to mature into a very social, outgoing adult dog.
 
Ahhh how lovely!

At some point in the future I'll be needing to go through the 'choosing a GSD pup' process again. These look cracking.

My older GSD was the most confident, sociable and toy orientated puppy when I saw him at 6 weeks, but he's not like that at all as an adult. However my younger one was boisterous, energetic and constantly on a mission to explore and learn at 6 weeks, and he's exactly the same as an adult.

I think it really is pot luck! Looking forward to 6 week pics :)
