As title really! Having only ever given gastroguard to an insured horse and once many years ago abler to an uninsured unscoped horse.
This is insured but I’m not keen on scoping him so thought I may try a week or do treatment. Insurers only pay, understandably for confirmed cases.
I believe there are now slightly cheaper options?

Nexium (non-prescription) is esomeprazole which is an enantiomer of omeprazole (pharmacology speak for the same but different). The tablets can't be crunched up by the horse in order to preserve the gastro-resistant pellets but I poke the tablets into pieces of banana that my horse pretty much swallows whole anyway but give 1 extra tablet in case one does get chomped.
Hope this makes sense!

Thanks, What dosage do you dive or how would dosage we calculated?

The tablets are 20mg and a human would take 1 every 24 hours, however that is for any size human i.e. tiny lady to giant man, and esomeprazole has a cumulative effect so you don't need to dose exactly mg/kg.
Long story short - I gave my 16.2hh 600kg horse 6 a day for a week and now he gets 4 a day hidden in a banana. This takes into account some of the tablet getting chomped.

My insurers have just paid up for the injections without him being scoped first to confirm.

It was Pet Plan
I rang them first to check they would cover it, which they did and they have just paid up.
The course cost around £750 I think including a supplement provided by the vet. My excess is £145.

Not really.
I’ve always used them and have claimed a lot on various horses. Ive not found they’ve hiked their fees up particularly.
I’m paying fairly high on my new horse as I’ve got loss of use but that was expected.
