Ok it seems sad - they do amazing stuff and I will continue to support it.

Reading between the lines it seems Marte just became completely burnt out by the whole draining emotional toll.!

I suspect they need our support more than ever, not only the poor animals but also the workers?

Anyone know any more!

I've just been looking at that! I don't know... I'm hoping they don't lose Sherif, too. There was a comment that someone made on one of the posts about Sherif being busy at the riding school, and Maryanne replied saying that there would be 'organisational changes' coming to PFK - hoping that means more support rather than Sherif also stepping down. Easy to read between the lines and get it wrong though, so I'll just wait and see, and try and avoid jumping to conclusions... Difficult to discuss really, without coming over as gossipy! Most of us can only go off what they choose to put on their FB page...

I hope they get through it.

Yes I’ve been reading that. It’s all a bit strange. In the very recent post seems to be some sort of hint that things weren’t been run as they should or weren’t being reported as they should?

There seems to be an update now re Marte leaving and Maryanne helping out (unpaid) along with a new book keeper/finance manager?

That update is very odd. Who are the 'senior management team'? I'd assume that's Sherif, and Marte, especially given the relatives comment and the fact they're described as [previously] "close friends" of the trustees, but given the context... I'm hoping not. Sherif's birthday fundraiser was really lovely, and the way they (well - Marte) wrote about him was so moving - I'd hate to think he's behind any sort of scam.

The latest ‘explanation’ post raised more red flags for me tbh. When someone posted that Marte was going back to Norway, it was only implied it was due to COVID-19. I don’t think there was ever any mention of her resignation?

From my very limited perspective, I can’t believe Marte would leave without giving an explanation and/or a goodbye, if she was able. PFK is her baby, after all, and it was obvious how devoted she was to both the equines and the small animals in her care.

I am so disappointed that PFK seems to be another 'victim' of the issues that hit the animal welfare charities.
I have supported them a lot in the past
There have been several pointers towards irregularities in how it was being run and the financial records kept in the recent posts- whether through wilful deception (hopefully not) or just overwork and burn out, I guess remains to be seen.

I do think that if they wish to see the donations continue come in they are going to need to be very upfront with donors about what has and is going on- just saying that it is in legal hands is not sufficient. I won't continue to donate if Marte and possibly Sherif are essentially being hassled out and treated badly. If however there was previous impropriety and now they are attempting to run it differently and will be very open about that then I would continue to donate.

Why do all the charities end up like some sort of a shit soap opera - SAHA, AHAR, thon other whispering willow woman, its a minefield!!

Personally I am wondering whether attempting to do it under the UK charities commission was never quite going to work given the very specific circumstances they are in out there. I understand why they wanted to do it but am sure it made some things more complicated, without them necessarily being 'wrong' things for them to do.

I have certainly been unsure as to how sustainable the every increasing numbers of all animals was in recent times.

I saw that too and wondered what went on.. I donate to this particular charity as they always seemed to be less about the politics/egos that a lot of animal charities fall foul to, and they were always very transparent and frank about their treatments and PTS options. Although in recent times they did seem to be a bit in above their heads with the sheer number of equines they had.

I am very disappointed to see this all going on, and it's difficult to ascertain what's happened. I will continue to support for now, but if it does end up in a massive kick off unfortunately I may revisit that, I have to be honest

Would it have anything to do with the post on fb back in March from a person trying to discredit PFK again. They tried to discredit them a while back with a multitude of accusations and seems they’re at it again, accusing Marte and Sheriff of many things running PFK to fund their life etc!

With Marianne running it now all be it temporarily its in good hands and needs people to continue to donate and support, people will have to be patient but the truth will come out. I know there have been several comments about Sherif working at a riding stable and these were made by people who have lived in Egypt for years and would know what was happening there. There are roughly about 300 equines there and they are all being taken care of and fed, please continue to support.

I read Maryanne's post which seemed to point no fingers and just sounded like theyd got in a bit of a mess. I read something that indicated Marte was just at the end of her tether as well which makes sense as well - possibly from the lady who does/did the cranial massage stuff
The latest update which I'm finding concerning is from the "trustees" who seem to be laying all blame towards Marte.
I'm not sure where I stand on who to believe with it all

I mean reporting to the charity commission is not a small deal, I think that has to be a 'serious incident'

A serious incident is an adverse event, whether actual or alleged, which results in or risks significant:

  • harm to your charity’s beneficiaries, staff, volunteers or others who come into contact with your charity through its work (who are collectively referred to throughout this guidance as people who come into contact with your charity through its work)
  • loss of your charity’s money or assets
  • damage to your charity’s property
  • harm to your charity’s work or reputation

For the purposes of this guidance, “significant” means significant in the context of your charity, taking account of its staff, operations, finances and/or reputation.

But I think it really depends on the context given the location.

I am good friends with one of the senior management team and know that they are doing everything they can to resolve things and do things the right way. The animals absolutely still come first.
They are wonderful people and I will continue to support them as normal.

For those of who want to go on supporting, but who are in the dark as to what's actually going on, perhaps you could tell your friend that a proper explanation would be better PR and more likely to keep supporters onside than the cryptic stuff that's coming out ATM

Once they can share, they will.

Following my court case I know how incredibly hard it is to have a story to tell, and for it to be obvious that you do, but to be unable to share anything. It’s horrible.

Ester Ive known Maryanne Stroud Gabbani for many years all be it a fb friend but she did help us with closing down The Egypt Horse Project run by a scammer, she runs her own farm and regularly provides veterinary care for local villages all for free. I dont know whether anyone watched the Ben Fogle series as one of those programmes was when he stayed with Maryanne.

PFK fb page was closed to everyone in Egypt which is suspicious enough but Maryanne had tried in the past to go and have a look there without success, there have been lots of rumours locally. Any way she just wants to make sure there are enough trustworthy people on the ground to run it so she can back away, talk of her taking over is ridiculous, she is a woman in her seventies who just wants to get back to her own life.

Maryanne writes a blog and wrote a few years ago about PFK admittedly less than complimentary but then she is on the ground and knows all the locals, she also speaks Arabic which is a big bonus. PFK is in safe hands and now more than ever needs everyone's support and donations
