Oh I can. Big business. It's that time of year too isn't it, even small 50lb bales here are going for $4

A friend of mine up the road, ships alfa/timothy hay in 600lb square bales down to the US (border is about 200 miles away) currently he's charging local clients $40 a bale (I pay $35 for a 750lb round bale when I need it) but he charges US clients a heck of a lot more plus shipping etc, and makes his money back. He cuts hay, at least two crops, off 1000 acres for export. No wonder he has a nice shiny new Dually.

Our hay has gone up to £30 a big bale due to short supply but not that much---yet!

I can't believe the Dutch are not growing their own hay

The hay here is bad quality now, I expect it is the bottom of the barn bales, they are a bit dusty, I am using mostly haylege now.

£4.50 a bale I am paying for a small bale. You can thank our stupidly dry summer last year for that, most people only got one cut of hay instead of the usual at least 2 cuts, which has meant short supply so farmers are able to charge more.

Around here people are paying £4.50 for a small bale and around £35 for a large bale. We sell carrots as a little sideline, and we've gone from selling 50 bags a week to selling over 150 bags a week as people are feeding them rather than hay (still feeding some hay but bulking up amount with carrots).

I was only paying £20 for a round bale but the quality wasn't brilliant, and then last month the farmer warned me that I could only have one more as he was running low for his own stock. Another crap hay year meant he just couldn't make enough.

I'm now having to mix the remaining hay with haylage from another supplier (he had no hay left at all!) at £4.75 a small bale, which is like rocket fuel to my native and playing havoc with my finances.

we are paying £32 a big bale (our was awful quality so the cows got it!) and £6 delivery on all orders but its good quality and he is reliable so cant complain to much

i pay £37 for a big bale of haylage but really really good quality could buy it a bit cheaper but not nice stuff

just spoken to my supplier after reading this (panick panick as im poor) and they say my large haylage is still £28

and not being increased as far they are aware - thank god for that

Blimey - £4.50 for a small bale??!! I pay £2.50 per bale and I'm in Kent! Excellent hay and I can pop round and pick up 12 bales every couple of weeks at any time of day or night - I think I'm spoilt!!

When we had all the snow here hay prices shot up to £35 a large round bale and £5-6 for a square bale. Luckily we have a nice Farmer friend who stuck to his original prices for us otherwise I dread to think what we would have ended up paying out over the last few weeks.

We pay £17.50 for a big bale which we pickup our selves, and i have some small bales delivered once a month for £3 both are good quality.
The big bales are getting low but we have now paid up front enough to last the rest of winter to ensure we don,t run out, the small bale supplier as told me he will have enough to last winter but only for us regular customers, so thankfully we shall be ok.

Also in S Yorkshire, and paying £18 for a large bale of haylage, £5 delivery but the £5 stays the same no matter how many you have (we have 3 a week and straw for the yard and fields)
