I've just been scrolling through the photos of all the previous equestrian Olympics on the FEI site
Some amazing pics: horses being unloaded from ships at the LA 1932 games, massive johdpurs, dressage outlines that would have you on 30% these days, but best of all, the XC start in 1928. Three soldiers with a table, chairs and a stopwatch............just fab!!

thanks for posting site, those are brilliant. i love the fact that the winner of individual gold and team silver in sj in 1912, also won bronze in eventing...! (on a very hollow-looking resentful horse!)
can't think of many top showjumpers that would get an Olympic medal in Eventing at the same time...

Wow. What amazes me is how back in the day, the horses all look so similar - very lean sport horse types. You can hardly tell what discipline each do without the caption!

Love the XC pic of the 1920 games. A horse & rider thundering down the course & spectators on each side but no barriers or cordons! That would never happen now
