Today was the senior novice dressage qualifiers for the riding club. The Juniors were yesterday and there were only 4 teams entered and our guys won and are now off to Hartpury (Yipee)
My test time today was after 4 so I had lots of time to wash his legs (he's out 24/7) wash his tail, and get him plaited. Loaded well and off we went. He travelled like a dream and was good as gold. Got to the venue a bit early and had some help so was ready a bit early. Warmed up too soon but he went fairly well.
Went into the test and the arena wasn't very nice; must have been 23 by 40 as there was just enough room to get round one side of the boards and flowers
Our test was ok. He was a bit against me for some of it and was on the forehand in most of the canter work but to be fair he's only just clicked about staying in an outline in canter so that's something for us to work on. Had 2 7s and the rest was all 6s and 5s so was quite disappointed to come out with 56.1%
Our chef de quip thought it looked nice and should have been mid 60s
Comments were all fair and useful for us to work on
So we got back and I gave him a drink and a small feed and 2 minutes later he started to heave
I first thought it might be hiccups but the wretching was a bit violent. Thought it might be choke or colic so started to panic
Tried to get his head up and clear the blockage but it was too painful for him so walked him about. Rang my poor friend in a panic not sure what to do immediatly and was told to ring the vet but that it sounded more like choke than colic. He started to heave gunk out his mouth and nostrils which confirmed it was choke. Vet came half hour later and gave him muscle relaxant and sedative.
Poor thing was very distressed at the stuff he was snorting out
I put down a straw bed which he promptly decided to try and eat when he perked up but then realised he couldn't so was a bit peeved. Vet agreed he should just have rubber mats down and nothing else.
He's in for the night now and i'll go and check him in a bit. I don't expect him to be very happy as he is not a stabled horse and would much rather be out
Sarah and Perry had a brilliant day but I'll let her post about it!
Only one good pic
