what a day me and the pony have had!

I went down this morning to get him in and long rein him before it got too warm to do anything. As soon as i approach my boy in the field i noticed that he was really sweaty (not like him at all), once i put his headcollar on he was really sluggish and reluctant to move. My immediate thought was that he had laminitis but his feet weren't very hot and no pulses. He stopped for a poo coming down the hill and we made our way over to the water trough as we normally do. Once we got there he didnt really drink (again unlike him) then proceeded to start rolling on the end of the leadrope, yep he had colic!

Called the vet straight away and inbetween sobs managed to tell her what was wrong, i luckily keep a stethoscope at the yard so listened for gut sounds, which were present although very quiet on the left hand side and he was also a bit bloated on the left too.

The vet got to us about an hour or so after i called her and gave him a pain killer injection and said he was dehydrated so needed to get him drinking loads. She suspects he was a little inpacted and spasmodic (he was straining to try and poo whilst walking him around). Started him on epsom salts and told me to go off and buy some table salt and to feed him small sloppy meals regularly. Has to run off and get some bran too (of course being a sunday no where is open so went back to my old yard).

He settled down loads once the inj had really kicked in and has been pooing regularly since then, however what is coming out of him smells like something has dies and is making its way out!!

wow, that was an essay and a half, cupcakes and wine if you got this far
