Last September my best friend brought a shire x from a riding stables. She wasn't really looking for a new horse at the time and being quite little she certainly wasn't looking for one so big! But she fell in love with him as soon as she saw him, he was looking for a new home as he'd damaged his tendon and the vet had advised them that he wouldn't cope with school work anymore.
He settled in very well but had some handling issues and when we started his ridden work again he was also very cheeky, unfortunately he proved to be a little too big and strong for my best friend so I started riding him more and more.
In April we started having lessons from a brilliant instructor who we've known for a long time, he had known B in his home before he'd gone to the riding school and couldn't believe how much he'd deteriorated. The first lesson B struggled to do even the basics and had lost all his amazing lateral work, slowly we've got his confidence back (and mine!) and he know looks a different horse.
We had our last lesson today before our winter break and he was amazing, doing leg yields, turn on the forehand, shoulder in and finding it easy. So chuffed with him and all of us really
he's still a bu***r sometimes as he likes to through in the odd buck and pee off if he feels like it but I'm so much more determined now with him and if I hadn't of had my instructor there I'd of lost my confidence. He's just the kind of instructor I need
Bit of a pointless post really but I'm proud of the big diplodocus (his pet name) he's a frustrating idiot sometimes but we all love him, and a picture to show his cuteness and why it's rather a long way down......
