What a five figure budget means to you

Recently I sent a FB message to someone advertising a horse I was interested in viewing asking how much their horse was as they'd indicated a low five figure budget.

To me a five figure budget indicates anywhere between £10k - £20k (for the type of horse I'm looking for.) With a low five figure being £11k- £12k . She replied £16.5k.

Am I missing something?

I know this has been done to death on the forum but no real conclusion was ever drawn. Or is it a 'how long is a piece of string?' question open for individual interpretation.

I don't understand why people can just say or indicate with carrots, I.e 12.5🥕🥕🥕 for example. Why the cloak of secrecy??
FB has stopped you animals for sale ads, so its just away of getting around the admins. Like you see looking for a new🏡

In my head low 5 figures is between 10 and 20k but there is no scientific justification for that thought process😅just my own made up rules!

Same, and low 5 figures would be 12 to 13k in my odd little brain. Mid 14 to 16k, and high 18k upwards. No idea where 17k would fit in my made up system 🤣 🤣

Hate the stupid carrot thing. I sometimes report horses for sale on Facebook as against their rules.

Years ago a local yard advertised a horse as bargain. I rang and asked what their idea of a bargain was. We were in the same region and I bought him and he was fab.

Why would you report them . What harm does it do you ?

Because Facebook rules are no animal for sale ads and it is just a silly way of trying to get around that. That said, it is only when an advert is particularly annoying I do it so probably only reported a couple when I was in a grumpy mood.....

It annoys me too.

Just put the price and stop wasting everybody's time.
I agree, I will be buying a horse from October, and want to know the value of it, if it is over my budget I wont even bother to call. It is annoying, they don't do it with car sales so why horses???

I don't think I will respond to adverts who cannot put the actual cost of a horse up.

be so much easier for a seller to get only people who want a horse in that budget, and they won't get bombarded with time wasters, buying a horse his hard enough without knowing which are in your budget.

When we were looking with a low 5 figure budget we meant up to £25k (well strictly speaking the husband was begrudgingly ok with up £20k, but by the end he was so fed up of my grumping I think he’d have agreed to anything to stop having to constantly hear about horses 😂).

In my head I weirdly think of it in quarters, which kinda makes no sense as I’d consider mid 5s to be above 25 to 60 and anything above that not worth worrying about as I’d never have that kind of money to spend on a horse 🤣

I'd say up to £15k could be advertised as 'very low 5 figs' but if it just says low then anywhere up to £25-30k is technically correct
I would say £16.5k is low 5 figs since its in the bottom of the range which obviously extends to £99k

I think it also depends on if it is ponies or horses or ponies. When I was looking I had 10k budget and low 5 fiqures seemed to be 10-12.

I think people who don't put a price are sometimes flexible with pricing. I didn't ring up anyone who had a pony advertised above my budget but YO called one connie I liked the look of that was over budget and went straight in and told them what I had to spend and they said they would accept that.

In the end I got Bert so didn't view the connie but his price was also dropped by 1.5k.

I think though you have to consider what the large proportion of horses being advertised on the common FB pages are priced at, mid 5 figs to me is £20-£30k and that is purely because the vast majority of horses on there begin with a 1 or 2. High 5 figure horses (as in the £90k bracket) generally aren't being flogged on 'irish horses for sale UK'.

Now if it said High 5 figs on HQ, then I would be thinking £70-90k
