What a joke!

doesnt surprise me tbh, worked for HMRC for 27 years and took redundancy last year, as did 80% of the others in our office which was being closed. basically replaced experienced people with a computer system not fit for purpose, call centres staffed by people with 12 weeks training and answering questions from a computerised crib sheet...i could go on.

dont get me wrong theres lots of good people work for HMRC, (as well as some slackers & some of the most unhelpful people you could ever meet) On the front line its low paid and high pressure (from mostly a*** licking managers). and too many 'pretendy jobs' and consultants.

They introduced LEAN working a few years back, modelled on a car assembly line, which meant that instead of working on someones case start to finish, you did your bit then it was passed on to someone else to do the next bit (or not!). And woe betide you if you did more than you should (for example someone rings to say their tax code is wrong. You put it right but notice it was wrong in the previous year too meaning they had under or over-paid. Not allowed to do anything about that as the caller didnt mention it and the new computer system will pick it up eventually...! lots of people gonna be in for a shock with some nasty bills landing :(

This sounds so familiar, I wonder how many others have 'experienced' the LEAN factor!!!!
