Was rudely awakened at 5.30 am by a splattering noise and a vile smell... Freddie had shat all over the (beige!) living room carpet!!! Really evil smelling, large quantity of liquid poo too which took nearly an hour to clean up :-(

No idea what has caused it as haven't seen him eating anything dodgy and he's not usually one for picking up manky stuff. He did seem a bit subdued but couldn't work out whether that was 'guilt' or feeling poorly. Took him for a short walk and seemed ok and is perky enough now (already barked at a couple of early dog walkers and chased the pheasants away from the bird table) but has had a couple of further 'bouts' though thankfully outside and not in the same volume.

Haven't given him any breakfast (oddly enough I don't feel like any either!) but he's been drinking normally. Will take him to the vet later today if doesn't clear up.

Working from home today to keep an eye on him.

Pointless post really - just felt the need to share with (hopefully!) sympathetic peeps. To add insult to injury OH had left for work about 15 mins previously and tried to get him to go out for a wee then but he wouldn't go (insert very peed off looking emoticon - I haven't got the techy skills to put one in)
 
Poor you - look on the bright side, you smelt it before you stood in it! :D

Dogs get the squits from time to time, it happens and unless they wake you up they have no opton but to go in the house, and he probably didn't want to **** on the carpet anymore than you wanted him to :( Had no choice though poor chap.

At least you're home today so can leave back door open incase he needs to make a sharp exit :)
 
Yep - I have the back door open (and all the windows in the house to eliminate the pong!) and am taking him outside on an hourly basis.

I wasn't cross with him as understand he didn't have an option but am miffed that the living room is the only room that is carpeted - all the others are tiled or wooden which would have been so much easier to clean :-(

Never mind - c'est la vie as they say...

He seems fine now though has done a couple of squitty poos since but nothing in the league of this morning - thankfully!
 
I'd double check with the vet too, as mentioned, if he's usually good, there is some reason why he couldn't hold himself and it sounds as if something has given him a dicky tummy - we can't watch them 27/7, he may have a bug, he may have picked up something manky when you weren't looking or drank some brackish water.

I don't know if guilt is the right word but a lot of dogs are very uncomfortable when they are forced to 'go' in an area they see as a sleeping place, you wouldn't be too happy with a steaming pile of poo in your bedroom either, eh?
 
Mine have had the runs in the dining room a few times before, it's the first thing you smell when you open your eyes in the morning - absolutely rank! They are now shut out of the living/dining room at night now so the only place they can let splat is in the kitchen, with tiled floor!

Thank God our dogs tend to run to the kitchen if they need to do anything and there is no open doors to outside - although oddly enough, our Goldie has a few times walked past the open kitchen door, past us and onto her nice carpeted, duvet covered bed, squatted and peed :mad:

As said before at least the smell gave it away before you felt it!! But agreed and have all the sympathy you need, 5.30am isn't a nice time to be woken up by that!
