My new puppy, who is about 4 months old got kickd by a horse 2 weeks ago, hard enough to knock her out. Needless to say I took her to the vet straight away! They said she was just in shock and no physical damage was done. she was given a steroid jab and we went on our way.

well last week we noticed that she had started losing weight and her breathing had become very shallow, and she was throwing up quite often.. but she was coping ok, so we thought we would see how she got on and if she would improve...

She didnt, so yesterday I took her to my vet, who booked her in for an x ray for this morning, so I left feeling a bit worried but better for getting the vets onto it!

Last night was sat there and noticed her sat upright with her nose in the air gasping for breath and toppling over every now and then, so I rushed off to the vets at 11 ish at night.

The vet was worried that she had deteriorated so x rayed her straight away, which I had to help with

She was breathing so fast that the xray was a bit blurry, so the vet couldnt see much, but thought it looked as though the kick had ruptured her diaphragm and her insides where getting through a rip into her lung cavity! !!!!!!!

She rang around loads of refferal clinics to see if they could take her on, as my vet surgery is very small, but there where none anywhere near that could take her

Well this continued untill around 1.30 am, and another vet had arrived to give her oppinion, and also thought she needed urgent attention.

They looked as though the clinic in swindon could take her, but while we where waiting for a call back, YO called saying that our last mare to foal was in labour but the foal was shoulder locked!!

So of I rushed at 150mph! got to yard in no time and everything ended up fine, merlins last foal of the year and it was beautiful.

so went back to the vets and they said we had got puppy into the refferal clinic in swindon, so I zoomed up the A419 to swindon and we arrived about 3. they took her and said they would put her into an oxygen tent overnight and do diagnostics and possibly operate in the morn...

Got to bed about 4am

Now waiting for news of scrat the puppy.. vet warned of a vet bill over 1000!!! fingers crossed for our little girl though!

Sorry for long post

Oh dear- what a night is right

It never rains but it pours as they say.
Good news that foal was ok but poor puppy.
Fingers crossed for some good news about her

They think that her liver was blocking the hole and then it moved and most of her insides are in her chest!

we have found out she survived the night and the oxygen tank has stabilised her a lot.

They are slightly concerned about the fact they have to put her out for decent x rays because she is having difficulty breathing and she is so small...

Oh honey, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your puppy!

They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. My pointer had to have a huge operation at 2 months because she had swallowed one of our cats toys (with a bell in which was actually quite strange as you could hear her jingling when she bounced about

). She obviously had to be put out for that and came around very well. At least you know she is in excellent hands where she is...

Good Luck - I have my fingers crossed, keep us informed. Lets all pray for a full recovery.

I lost the fight to save my GSD today, he is being pts beetween 12 and 2, depending on how long the hospital take to re evaluate the broken bone in my hand and defer it for another 3 months (I broke it 6 months ago!) (I no doubt will cry on everyones shoulder later)

Awww poor baby!

I really hope they can treat her and the little mite pulls through ok. She's clearly a fighter to have gotten through the net, bless her.

Congratulations on the new foalie.

I know how you feel as our lovely litter of 2 day old kittens have all just been killed by a dog. I can't stop thinking about it and feel devestated. Top vibes that your sweet puppy is fit and well very soon.
