And nothing lol , so stuck stirrups on and nothing , long reined and nothing was just fab . Didnt have side reins with me so just stuck reins in the stirrups irons , Went for a walk and she was fab , stood by the busy main road at the end of the lane with cars whizzing by and nothing , stood like a lamb and waited for me to tell her to walk on .

So proud of my baby .

... and this is what you generally get when you buy a youngster and own for some time before you start to back them. I'm very pleased you are very pleased - she looks terrific and totally unfazed.

It's so exciting. Beano got his new saddle the other day (pics in blog), and he didn't bat an eyelid either. We've had him since he was nine months and the earlier you do stuff, the better.

Well done, and as Tia says, if you have taken time to build up the relationship and trust then they should accept it. My chap did - saddle straight on, girth up and learning to long rein within 2 minutes.

I did a lot of getting Chancer to stand by the mounting block with me standing on it and putting my foot in the stirrup so he got used to this before he was backed. He took me being high above him all in his stride, ditto weight in the stirrup. I started this at the age of 2, though didn't sit on him until he was 2 1/2.

Being a sturdy gypsy cob, he was ready for this and we did things like walk over bags, have leg ups, mounted from odd things, did up girth, stirrups, waved my arms about etc, ie nothing that required much physical work but prepared him for people doing things in the saddle other than sitting still. He also learnt to walk, turn and halt with a rider.

I sat on him every other week for 5 - 10 minutes for three months until he had a huge growth spurt and started teething - so stopped until he was nearly three when we built up to gentle hacks.

Keep going and I know how every little thing makes you want to burst with pride.
