Arrived at yard 7am. Saw flooding around door (they are indoor stables) and thought 'Oh crikey, thats a big puddle, going to get wet feet'. Tiptoed through it (no wellies on), opened door and WHAT A SHOCK - ALL NINE STABLES UNDER WATER !!!!
Horse was stood right at the back of his stable where it was still dry, with a look of pure terror on his face. Poor baby was petrified. Due to the heavy rain, and the field being wet, he was going to stay in. Best laid plans and all that - i had to coax him out (his eyes were on stalks), down to the main doors (i had gone in through the small pedestrian door), opened the big door to lead him out, and a tidal wave (honestly, though it was a small one) then flooded the entire stables about 6" deep. Obviously the doors were holding back a lot of the water.
Anyway, poor horsie had to spend the day in the mud whilst I had to dash off elsewhere for a prior appointment. then had to clean up Sat afternoon - lifting all rubber mats which weigh an absolute ton. My wonderful other half did that. Sweep out water, swill out with clean water etc etc then re-lay mats on wet floor (tut tut) and dash off to but loads more fresh bedding (isnt Aquamax marvellous)
Now having to sort through wet rugs, bandages etc etc
Can i just say, my heart really goes out to people who's homes have flooded. i can't imagine how awful that must be. this was just a stable yard, and it was a right hoo haa.

Ours were the same on Saturday - we had loads of snow the previous week, and it all melted on Friday and overnight Saturday with the heavy rain - as the ground underneath was still frozen solid, it all just ran down into Tia's stable. We had to take out most of her shavings bed and start again.

I used to have this in my old stable - but luckily moved into diff stables so i could have 3 together. It was awful though all wet things and used to small! poor you and your horses!

You have my sympathies, in February we had a huge amount of rain resulting in the retaining wall to our parking area collapsing due to flooding off the road. As it collapsed it sent a tidle wave through our stables, leaving 2 horses and my shetland pony ankle deep in water.
We were extremely fortunate that a small yard up the road had 3 empty stables, and it took a huge team effort to clear out the bedding - my mum has the thickest shavings beds you've ever seen, and we trippled the size of the muck heap as none of it was salvageable.
The same episode also saw us lose one end of our arena, although it worked out well as it's now like new following an insurance repair.
Hats off to you for getting it done in a day though!!!

Sympathies to all as we had one of our stables flooded too. The very end box was ankle deep in water where it had all run down from the top of the yard to the end. Thankfully got spare stables so moved her over and have spent most of today emptying the whole bed out and drying the stable. All being well, we shall move her back into her own stable in a couple of days time with a brand new bed down and then start digging more trenches to lay more drainage pipes to take the water away, as we don't think our present drainage system is able to cope at the moment.

It's heartbreaking throwing all that bedding away isn't it. But as you've said, at least it's not our homes.
