Haven't posted a competition report in ages, so thought as we are coming to the end of the year I would post a round-up of the season instead.
It started quite early with the Pony Club Dengie Winter Championships and the British Riding Club Winter Championships a week apart. Daughter came 7th in her arena in the Pony Club Open Dressage and also jumped clear in the Winter League Show Jumping, just having a pole down in the jump off. Then at the Riding Club Winter Dressage Championships they had an amazing time and came 2nd in their arena and their team WON!
Then, after bad weather and cancellations, they finally managed to get to their first BE event, and came third in the BE100u18! So over the moon. Even more excited when they came second in the next one, so qualified for the BE100u18 championship at Weston Park. And then in their final BE100u18 they came 5th. Oh and they also came second in the BRC Area Junior 100 Horse Trials Qualifier and team qualified for the nationals.
Their record slipped a bit in their next BE100 when despite a good dressage they had two poles down showjumping and then went too fast cross country so dropped out of the placings.
As daughter's horse had been working so hard, we decided she should ride OH's horse for tetrathlon and were delighted when he sailed round the Area Tetrathlon clear and qualified for the Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships. He also thrilled us by going on to jump clear round the testing course at the Championships as well.
Then disaster struck and daughter's horse went lame the day we were due to leave for the Riding Club National Horse Trials Championships. Desperate to ensure we had a full team, we decided to take OH's horse instead and were thrilled when despite a terrible dressage he then jumped double clear and cam 10th in his arena, helping the team to 3rd place!
Daughter's horse turned out to have a grumbling foot abscess and wasn't able to go to the Pony Club Open Dressage Championships or the Riding Club National Championships so daughter substituted him with her old pony to ensure the Clubs could send a team. We knew she wasn't going to do an arena winning test at either of them but she did very respectable tests at both (especially considering the PC Open test is approx Elementary standard) but not surprisingly wasn't individually placed.
Whilst her horse was on the mend, daughter was really missing the eventing scene, so decided to take OH's horse to a BE100 on a ticket. Had to do day before dressage to get in, and that meant her section was full of pro riders! His dressage was as awful as we expected, but again he jumped a double clear to pull himself up to 19th place in a big section and gain two foundation points! A winter of dressage schooling beckons for him now!
Managed to get daughter's horse finally fit and ready in the nick of time for the BE100u18 Championships at Weston Park. They did a lovely dressage despite persistent rain to gain a great score of 27.5 which put them into 9th place in a 60 plus section.
Then they jumped a clear round showjumping which would mean a top 5 placing if they got no faults XC. Unfortunately the rain turned torrential as they started their cross country round and although he jumped superbly they were unlucky and slipped into one of the last jumps getting 20 penalties which sadly dropped them from fourth place to nowhere, so no fairytale ending this time. Daughter was obviously gutted, particularly as this was his only XC stop this year, but given all the problems we were lucky to get there in the first place and was still a very pleasing performance for what was only his fifth BE event!

Finally we had RC Area Dressage the other weekend where they got a respectable score of 65.76% in the Novice, to come second only .39% behind the leader. All the team did very well, so they are off to Hartpury again for the winter championships again next year.
After all that lot, we are having a break from competing for a while, and enjoying the hunting season instead. Daughter's horse doing what he loves best:
