What action can i take againts the people that neglected my horse!!!

When you speak to them it wouldn't be a great idea to get stroppy with them, they are restricted in what they can do by law. I certainly dont blame them they do a fantastic job i just wish he was taken, if they would have got there earlier then he would have been removed. I understand they're but i have finally got hold of them and they are going back and they have said she will not be warned again and he will be removed if she messes up again! :)

If it was your horse you would feel exactly the same he was given to them, but i retained his passport and that was my only bit of luck that i could take him back straight away! My horse i have back is in fantastice condition but i'm dreding the the winter for the other horse who is throughbred and will seriously struggle if he is left there and not checked on!
 
Im sure they have been grilled by WHW and to be honest : IT ISNT YOUR HORSE.
How would you feel if someone poked their nose in how you keep your horse. Not saying theyre in the right,but obviously it wasnt bad enough or WHW would of taken action. Hes not your horse so legally you cannot do anything.
You should let sleeping dogs lie.
 
The passport issue here is irrelevant. It was actually illegal for you to retain the passport when you gave him to someone else to care for. The passport, legally, has to stay with the horse. But it does not indicate ownership. You were able to take the other horse back because you owned it, not because you had the passport.

I sold a horse that was as badly treated as yours. Thanks to understanding what an awful world it can be, I sold him with a contract which made it reasonably easy to go and negotiate buying him back from the woman who had starved him.

I am sorry about your concern for the horse you sold, but he is their property. All you can do is what you have done, alert the authorities, keep your eye on him and let them know of any deterioration. It's a horrible situation and I feel for you, having been there myself. You are doing your best, try not to beat yourself up too much.


ps Sharon you obviously haven't seen photos of the kind of starvation a horse can go through and still have the RSPCA say that they can do nothing. If you want to see mine, PM me. It happened to me in a hard winter in only 14 weeks, having sold the horse too far from home to check on him, after vetting the new home comprehensively and in spite of a three page contract. Please don't think too badly of this poster.

I haven't read all of the posts but would like to disagree with everyone saying that as it isn't your horse, just ignore it. I dread to think about many animals have died or been mistreated in the worst ways because well-meaning people have kept their noses out.
 
You are NOT to blame for what has happened, they have had them for 2 years (think that's what I read?) Also, you would hope that as friends they would have contacted you if their circumstances had changed & they could no longer afford to feed them (if that's the case?) I cannot understand why someone would let these animals get into this state, so can only assume they had financial difficulties?

Yer you would have hoped but they believed nothing was wrong with him and they he was perfectly healthy! I couldnt believe the words oming out of their mouths as i was taking him! They have a fair bit of money and uon purchasing my other horse this was all they could boast about how he wouldnt want for anything etc, the land was next to their house and they let them get like that! There was proof that it was purely neglect My horse Des looked amazin after a month he had all his hair back and most of his spine disappeared if he was ill he would have never have put the weight back on so quickly. Teh vet that done the report and tests for me explained that it was pure neglect and nothing else! Its sad they are still allowed to keep horses, i'm preying i get a chance to stand up agiainst them in court one day! XXXXXXXXXXX

Having looked at your picture of him I can totally agree. He is very poor and he does need someone's attention. I wouldn't just walk past and do nothing if I saw a horse that thin even if I had never seen it before. Don't put yourself in danger or get directly involved as, like someone already said, you might jeopardise any potential action by WHW/ RSPCA but I would certainly be staying in touch with the charities. Especially as it is winter now and he is likely to deteriorate. If he gets much poorer they will be able to do something as the vet will be in support also.

Try not to worry too much about him as it sounds like the charities are on your side and at least they are aware and monitoring the situation.

I would love everyone to know about them they are not on facebook, they just live in their own little bubble and no one is really around in their area to report them they have teir own land and i think that is why it went unnoticed for so long! if these people were on a yard full of people who knew what they were doing, they would have been lynched!
 
For every one horse in this situation,unfortunately there are another 10 behind. I am sorry that the agencies haven't stepped in any further,but WILL do if necessary.....maybe said horse is not that bad.

I'm sorry I haven't read all your posts,but I am struggling to have too much sympathy....I have a couple on loan and I visit regularly (more than 6 monthly) and if I'm in any doubt,I collect or arrange for them to be transported asap.

I did speak with The man form WHW yesterday and he is going to go back as soon as he gets a chance, he was gutted when he didnt get the vets support earlier this year and he found the woman quite amicable to start but has he was issuing the warning notices to her he explained he showed him her true colours and she is definatly on his watch list. It sounds harsh but i want him to be in a state this winter so he is removed in case something happens to him later on, I'll never stop bothering this poor man unitl i know he is safe!

I visited him every three months, until this winter when i didnt see him for 6. He was there for nearly two years nearly and last winter he was fine up there so i did trust them to cartain extent. and the day i saw him in this state he ws on the trailer the next day. My other horse i own is just about to go to a lovely loan home and i will be consistant with my visits i will never make the same mistake again!

Glad to hear you're going to keep on and on about the other horse,sometimes hounding the right ppl is just what it takes :)

Exactly. If I saw any of the horses I've sold in the past looking a real state I would absolutely be very concerned and not stop until I'd got the situation sorted. If the horse had a body score of 1 then that's not just a bit skinny, that truly is a serious cruelty case - there is NO excuse for that whatsoever. I'm not sure what you can do though, would they sell the horse? If so, perhaps you could get a friend (unknown to them) to buy it back on your behalf?? Otherwise, all you can do is keep reporting it.

If you are unhappy at what the RSPCA and WHW have done and still feel that the horses are vulnerable than I would suggest that you contact the BHS Welfare Department who will be only to pleased to investigate.

I'm happy with what they have done, I am unable to check on him myself due to the abuse i recieved off of the people who still have the horse. WHW have promised me they will go back in ASAP and check him. I feel that he is vunerable he is such a lovely horse he's only 8 and i just would never forgive myself if anything happens to him! He had lice back in may, rain scald, pretty blad all over and i could see every bone in his body! They never rugged them by the looks of it, they have had a warning from WHW, but i will keep that link Thankyou for it i didnt even realise the BHS had a welfare department :)
