As the title really. My friends horse passed away recently and now shes back looking on the market and shes seen a nice 2 year old colour gelding.

The things I said she should look at is the way its being around people, is it calm and accepting human interaction (so to speak), will it tie up nicely, will it have its feet picked up, has it been wormed and are his vaccinations up to date. Also I said he should be able to be lead in a decent manner?

I dont know much about what to look for, I went off my gut instinct when I bought my youngster and somehow hes turning into a real beauty haha!!

If the horse has spent most or the majority of his life in one home i would recommend that your friend have an expert or even tge previous owners on hand just in case the horse becomes a problem in his new home

One of mine was 100% fine at the viewing - hooves picked up, legs bandaged ok, led and boxed ok but once here i couldnt get near him, it was like he was unhinged by the move - i waited much too long before admitting defeat and getting help!

Thankyou :) Yes I will tell her to ask about the previous owners ect and see if she can get someone with more knowlege than myself to go up with her.

I must admit she is a complete novice really even though shes had a previous horse and Ive tried to tell her not to buy a youngster yet as its a whole different ball game and perhaps spend more time saving up and buying another horse thats allready backed and had a few miles on the clock.

Ive been lucky with mine as the yard Im on the lady has bred her own for the last 40 years, so I get all the knowlege and support from her, my friend has no one at her yard :(

If its to back or just started I think it's easier if they are not too big on top of the good advice above I would say don't choose to big .
