I'm probably worrying unnecessarily.... but I need someone to put my mind at rest.
My filly was born March 07, I bought her Aug 08 aged 17 months, she's now 20 months.
When I got her she was hugely bloated and had a real pot-belly. She changed shape drastically with some proper attention but has always had a "bit" of a belly, which I put down to being a yearling and having a bad start to this year (bought in poor condition).
However, for the last few weeks, everytime I take her rug off, my eyes are drawn to her stomach and I keep thinking she looks pregnant. I think her belly has changed shape recently, I cut her food down as she was getting a little tubby (beginnings of a cresty neck) and she's lost a bit of that extra, but I really am beginning to worry about her shape.
The fact that in the 3 months I've had her she's had several raging seasons also points to her not being pregnant, but she did move to a new yard and I know of mares that still show whilst in-foal.
She's a very hormonal mare, sweet and affectionate some days and a nasty cow on other days, again I put down to the fact her hormones are all over the place with her seasons.
She came from a large stud who couldn't put a figure on the actual number of horses they had (oh, the joys of miniature horses
) but had 17 "active" stallions running with who knows how many mares..... plus however many of previous years ungelded colts must have been on the farm (nobody seems to geld minis) . I haven't spoken to the stud yet to ask if there's any chance she could have been served, but I don't know if they'd honestly be able to say either way for definite.
The thing that's worrying me is I had this a few years ago that I was absolutely convinced for months that a cob mare in full-time work on my yard was pregnant but no-one agreed or believed me. When her stomach dropped suddenly her owner finally had her scanned....... and she was due within weeks.
So now I've made myself paranoid, what I'm after is for someone to categorically tell me my yearling filly can't be pregnant........ please?
