what age did you start showing/competing?

I am hoping to enter the novice jumping at a local show this year at nearly the age of 20 and was wondering how old others were when they started goin to shows?
as most people i know were younger than i am.

Well I started at about 5! lol (but only sort of kiddie classes of sit on and look cute as a button! although my horse constantly threw me off!) Mine was also just a local show! but its the best place to start!

My friend however who is about 30 did her first show last year! So its not a problem, whatever age you start so long as you enjoy yourself!

I was 7 myself and was quite mercenary about who was allowed to lead me for the show jumping and gymkhana games as not everyone could run fast enough to win a rosette!! I know lots of people that came to riding later in life and enjoy competing though. A friends husband didn't start riding until he was in his 40's, he is now a total addict and loves show jumping! Good luck at your show!

There's nothing wrong with starting to ride/compete late, as long as you enjoy it!

I started competiting when i was 13 and was soon coming home with rosettes!!

Don't worry about age, i know people who have started competing at the age of 40!

Just so you don't feel left out amongst all these child stars... I was 23 when I bought my current (and so far only!) horse. I had never intended competing, so I was 25 by the time I went to my first event (unaff dress and mini sj). Oops, got the bug and 5yrs later I'm PN eventing

im 19 and doing my first in hand showing show in may lol so I wouldnt worry about the age

as long you have fun thats the only thing that matters

I started doing some fun shows (ghymkhanas in Canada) when I was 10, and my first dressage at 13. Then I didn't compete again until last summer, when I did my first wee SJ. I don't think your age matters at all!

I have been showing for years but I have a friend who took one of my ponies in a class at a show last year. It was her very first time competing at the age of 49.
